I know I'm probably barking up the wrong tree in regards to the genre, but if anyone's interesting Slitherine has just released a successor to the old Panzer General games.

Review: http://www.digitallydownloaded.net/2011/07/review-panzer-corps-pc.html

You can only play the German campaign -apparently DLCs for Allies/Soviet campaigns to be added later- but the way it's set up allows you to go down different paths depending on your progress(ie: enough decisive victories can lead to you taking over Europe and attacking the USA; whilst marginal victories/defeats will end up following a more historical route).

All in all, a great improvement on an old classic that's definitely worth the $40 download.

so is this like hearts of iron or something? the trailer didn't really tell me a whole lot.

Nowhere near as huge in scale or micro-management as HOI, it's closer to a hex-based board game or the Strategic Command games.

This isn't a game that's going to blow your socks off, but what it lacks in graphics it makes up for in gameplay.

Anyways, this thread is more for bringing the game to the attention of fans of the old PG games than anything.
