I know I'm probably barking up the wrong tree in regards to the genre, but if anyone's interesting Slitherine has just released a successor to the old Panzer General games.

You can only play the German campaign -apparently DLCs for Allies/Soviet campaigns to be added later- but the way it's set up allows you to go down different paths depending on your progress(ie: enough decisive victories can lead to you taking over Europe and attacking the USA; whilst marginal victories/defeats will end up following a more historical route).
All in all, a great improvement on an old classic that's definitely worth the $40 download.
