There has been talk around here of the so called 'passengers' which must be delisted in order for us to win a premiership. i decided to take a look at all the clubs and their 'passengers' if they have any- in comparison to Carlton.


Adelaide- Ivan Maric, Scott Stevens.

Brisbane- Scott Harding

Carlton- Russell(probably a bit harsh) , O'hAilpin, Hartlett, Edwards

Collingwood- Presti, Leigh Brown, Chris Bryan(why we got rid of him:D), Ben Johnson(don't rate him- can be easily replaced),

Essendon- Jason Laycock

Freo- Kepler Bradley, Steven Dodd, Ryan Murphy.

Geelong- Haha don't be silly.

Hawthorn- nup.

Melbourne- Mark Jamar, Lynden Dunn, Brent Moloney, Wheatley, Whelan.

North- Swallow, Watt.

Port- Chaplin, Pettigrew, Thurstans.

Richmond- Jordan McMahon(can't believe he has played 140 games),
Jay Schulz.

St Kilda- The Clarkes(not so much xavier)

Sydney- Henry Playfair(worst dreamteam choice ever)

West Coast- Ashley Hansen(even in a premiership team was not able to deliver and has been given too many chances), Brett Jones, Matt Rosa(mediocre midfielder who had great players around in 05-06), Mark Seaby, Beau Waters.

Western Bulldogs- N/A


So compared to the rest of the competition we are kind of high on the list, if we want to be top 4 our worst six players should be capable of contributing every week a la Geelong.
 
This is just stupid. You picked players from our squad rather then best 22.

Is that to say that on the whole Richmond, Brisbane, Hawthorn, Geelong and Western Bulldogs don't have more then 2 duds in their squad?

Get a clue... Presti is Collingwood's most important player and Maric is one of the best young rucks in the AFL.
 
Cloke, we need to carry this load if we are going to hold our own in the top 4. Can't mark, can't run, CAN'T chase.

I don't agree with your list though.

dane swan is the pies most important player and adelaide shouldn't have gotten rid of hudson. i included edwards, hartlett because they would be picked if our kp's were injured. i tried to only include players who actually get a game but people keep going on about passengers in our team and i had a hard time finding some so i looked into our plan b players.

Some people call them passengers. Other people call them depth. Not everyone on a list is going to be a 100 game player.

Every list (inc Hawthorn and Geelong) is going to have some players that aren't up to it. But what can you expect when these players are often drafted with late picks etc. No list is ever going to be completely free of what you refer to as 'passengers'.

Swan is far from their most important. Pendlebury and Medhurst are much more required then Swan.

And what does Hudson LEAVING have to do with Maric passenger?


TBH I've no idea what the point of this thread. Each team has bad players. Each team has good players. It's getting the best mix that will win you a premiership.
 
Only looked at CFC as do not give a stuff about the other teams.
Carlos (yes I was one who said get rid of him) is a bloke who has and is slogging his guts out trying to learn the game and has come a very long way. Maybe he will not make the grade but I would not call him a passenger!
 
Passengers = players who don't perform against good sides but might be ok against lesser ones. Players who don't perform to their best for some reason. Players who, when play well, "suprise" you.
 
well im sorry for it seeming so pointless but i have read at least 20 posts in the last week saying that we needed to get rid of 'passengers' so i thought i would compare to other clubs and this is just my opinion so don't attack me :(
 
How could you possibly have Ivan Maric on that list?

Currently out of form, but some of the football he played last year was absolutely inspirational. One of the toughest, lionhearted young ruck prospects I've seen for some time...

Passengers are players who only play well when the side is winning/playing good footy, but them somehow go missing when the team is on the skids/losing ... (not naming names btw)

Look it is nothing personal but I just think if you want to torch some of our players, just do it. Do not try to disguise it in a supposed researched thread on opposition weak links.

The reality is all teams have players who have deficiences but play a part. Suggesting that Carlton have more than any other team (and putting in two blokes that have not even played for us yet this year) is incorrect.

Even the best grand final winning teams have guys that struggle.
