Has anyone else lost a bit of passion for footy since the Melbourne loss?
I don't know what it is, but I cannot get myself excited about footy anymore after that.
The losses don't get me angry at all anymore (wasn't angry or disappointed after the St Kilda and Geelong thumpings)
The wins against Bulldogs and Port weren't exciting. Wasn't really angry for the first 3 quarters against Port. I am usually one who loves smashings no matter who we smash or what quarter we smash them.

Only one I can say I was happy about was the Fremantle win and that is only because we won at a venue we never win in. Was a bit excited in the last quarter against Sydney only because it could have been record breaking.
Now there is no need for the whole fair-weather or band-wagoner thing because unlike most, I have never seen a premiership and have seen only one finals win (against Melbourne in 2004)
Nor did I know that Essendon were successful when I started going for them.

I am usually angry for the next 3 days after a thumping like that. No matter what our form line, I always look forward to the Hawks. Not excited this time.

Mind you, I was never like this during our bad periods (2010, 2006)

Anyone else have the same feeling?

**** no.

This is the foundation of a premiership team, and the coach is a man who has never failed. I'm on the wagon from the start.

I spent 2 hours of solid quality time swearing at the TV against the Geelong game.

FIRE UP MAN!

If this is how you feel, change your name. You are no longer 'madbomberman' You sound more like 'wimpyafteracoupleoflossesman' (no offence intended)

always passionate mate. maybe your just loosing interest over something else? didnt enjoy last week end but the good thing about footy is that there is a chance to redeem yourself the following week, i cant stand this lot (hawthorn and their **** head supporter base) always enjoy beating the hawks and listening to their supporters whinge and debate over it.

I used to watch almost every game in every round of footy until recently where I can't be ****ed and have found more interesting things to do. My passion for the Dons hasn't waned, if the horrors of 2006 and 2010 can't stop me from supporting this club then nothing will. Since 2003 when I turned 9 I've always had a passion for this great club, I've seen almost all of our games since then and will continue to do so regardless :thumbsu:

Ive found Ive lost passion for watching footy on TV, still love going to games, or listening on radio, reading the news or even watching it with mates and beers. But if im at home and i sit down to watch any game even one of ours, i just cant stand it. Ive put it down to the broadcasting quality so these days if im going to watch a game i either go to a mates and watch it on mute and just chat with mates, or listen to radio commentary while watching it by myself.

Nah, this is the best team we've had for 10years, and its only going to improve over the next 5 years,....

Yeah football at the end of the day is just another business, an entertainment business. Even if your club is run smoothly and efficiently, drafting regulations and club handouts can put a dampener on that and even up the competition even further. You continually see, too, that some players just go through the motions round after round. Brendon Goddard and Travis Cloke are two current examples of this, they are more worried about how much $$$ they're going to bring in during the coming year.

That is why, though, I am so fond of Jobe. The number of times he has gone above and beyond his role, is a testament to him and for that he should be congratulated. Could get a deserved pat on the back with a Brownlow too, just for his troubles. :thumbsu: I still am very passionate about the game and Essendon, but have toned it down considerably due to the reasons mentioned in 1st para. Players like Jobe, and the 'tactics' involved within the game, is what keeps me interested and watching it. How the game evolves is what I try to keep a handle on. Also a good relaxation outlet is AFL, switching off the mind and just barracking hard is a good refresher.

its just the injuries that are a bit demoralising i think. i mean, if nothing else, i go to the footy to see hurls' and cramdog do something awesome or zaka run down a wing. but without those guys playing its a bit harder to get excited.

Have seen every televised Essendon game since 1996 - no passion loss here . Backs against the wall against poo and wee

It's time .....

Good call.
How can you wax & wane each week when this guys is going flat out every week!
Good point about injuries too JD. It is easier to watch & get up for it when all our class players are there.

I lost my passion also after the Melbourne game. For some reason despite our good form leading up to that game, I predicted we would lose it to my mates, who basically laughed at me. I felt something was not right.
It was then I realised we may have improved in fitness etc, but we haven't improved in anyway mentally.
To lose that game and the Sydney game was a disgrace and now recent showings against St Kilda, Port and Geelong showed we are still not able to switch on mentally for games we should win.
This is what frustrates me most, more so than injuries.
Until we toughen up our minds, we will never achieve the success we want so much.

I'm probably too passionate at the moment. Us playing well or badly greatly impacts my mood for the week and how I feel about life in general. I have to keep reminding myself that it's just a game.

I certainly don't believe that I've lost my passion for the game and the Essendon Football Club, but that loss to Melbourne was admittedly quite demoralizing emotionally. For me personally, the past few weeks have been difficult with the persistent injuries, our key players continually being affected, and just coming to the realization that yet again for about the tenth year in succession we're unable to build and develop any continuity within our side. The likes of Hurley, Ryder, and Zaharakis have missed chunks of the season, and then there are others who are otherwise being persistently hampered by niggling injuries (Crameri, Pears, Myers).

And as silly and downright trivial as it sounds, I'm from Tasmania so I can't make it out to as many live games as I'd ideally wish to, so all season I've essentially had to put up with channel 7's Saturday night broadcast team for the majority of the season, and that's complete torture. I'm still fiercely excited in the hours leading up to our games, but I'm just a lot more subdued in the week leading up to it. I just keep reminding myself that this looks like it will be our best season in years, I'm enjoying and embracing it.
