**** he was a tough unit the bloke would cop a hit and it wouldn't faze him great player.Barnard and Bewick were my two favourites at kicking for goal.
I mean, I didn't mind some dude called Matthew Lloyd shooting for goal either. He didn't miss too often.

Didn't he also kick a miracle goal that sunk Hawthorn in the 2001 PF? I thought he was a gun, almost Norm Smith material in 2000 if the game wasn't such a cake walk.

From memory the score was 64-61 our way and he snapped a kick at the goals that looked to be headed through well wide to the left, but then it did a Murali and somehow bounced through for a goal to give us breathing space.

Then Lucas sealed it a couple of minutes later with another one.

When I read that Barnard had gone to Essendon as part of the Salmon trade I was genuinely sad to see him go. I saw him play against Essendon at Waverley in 1995. He came on at half time, collected 23 disposals including 10 marks and shut down Essendon's forwards, (Ess kicked 3.7 after H/T).
It was typical of the Hawks of that time, not giving the kids a proper go. It was the start of the end of Peter Knights as coach. Then we got Ken Judge who was worse.

A "DRUNKEN idiot" who knocked Essendon premiership player Paul Barnard unconscious walked free yesterday after a nine-month jail term was suspended.

Must have been a sucker punch, because I heard directly from someone at the club that a former opponent - who could supposedly handle himself & is often touted as one of the best players ever - asked Barney to come outside, and promptly received flogging.
