Paul Mifka

Paul-Mifka.jpg

DOB: 6/8/1965

Height: 186cm

Weight: 81 kg

Playing number: 37

Arrived: As a foundation squad member in 1986, from West Perth

Debut: Round 22, 1987 vs St Kilda – 33rd Eagles player.

Games: 1

Goals: 0

Departed: Delisted at the end of the 1987 season.

A long-time servant of West Perth, Paul Mifka was added to the inaugural West Coast squad after three solid seasons at the Falcons. Given a debut in the final game of 1987 along with fellow Falcon Sean King, Mifka performed reasonably with 14 touches but was dropped from the list at the end of the year.

The wingman slash defender played on with the Falcons until 1999, racking up 283 games and a best and fairest and retiring after the 1999 premiership, his second (having also played in the 1995 flag). He also had a stint at the Brisbane Bears in 1991 but failed to play a senior game.

As a Royals man, I always hated this guy.

As a neutral observer, his decking of Heatley behind the play was about as low as you can go. Even though the Falcons had won the 2nd Semi, Heatley had kicked 10 on them and obviously Mifka took it upon himself to ensure it didn't happen again.

As a west perth supporter he was one of my favourites, started as a wingman and ended up in the backline. His trouble was he was the most one sided player you had ever seen,he only had a left foot.

Hi Guys.

Mifka was a Cardie cult hero. I'm old enough to remember him playing pre-Eagles.There would be 10000-15000 at Leederville on a Saturday arvo and the whole grandstand would roar "MIFKA" when he went on one of his runs down the members wing.

Heatly kicks 10 2SF. We win by 1
Heatly kicks 1 GF. We win by 56.

Job done. Great WAFL player. Just couldn't take the next step.

Was pretty sick a few years back with some unusual problem. Provided some great memories at Leederville. Surprised he never got more of a go at the Eagles considering some of the guys who got games in the first year. Conspiracy theory for the Alexander/Todd years was that players from non coach favoured clubs didn't get much of a go and there was some great rivalry back then between East Freo, Swans and WP. Remember Kim Rodgers on Mainty's mark for Mainy's shot at goal after the siren in the final at Subi? Ask Dennis Cometti about 6PRs Footy Show when he was on the panel with John Todd.

Don't know if too many people were upset by the start to the GF (except for Wally, Trevor and the Subi supporters) Remember the likes of Solin, Langdon, Neasham were all still running around in and prior to that era. Have a guess who put Curley on his backside with a blindsided hit. Between the Whinnen/Dempsy years and the GF's in the 90's, the WP mosquito fleet were smashed for years and years with only the Duckworth brothers around to dish it out. What goes around, comes around.

Pretty sure he was a TRG copper during his West Perth days too.

I remember reading in the paper a few years after his retirement that he was pretty sick with something.

Don't know why Trevor Jenkins was so upset. He is a big Cardies man.

Nothing wrong with a bit of biff especially in a GF. Really set the tone for that game. Mifka wasn't reported from memory so there can't have been much in it.

As the unbiased ABC radio commentator, Trevor had to preach to good word.
As a mad Cardies man, his mind would have been 'go you good thing'
Lucky there was no Homer Simpson moment where the mouth says what the brain's thinking.

Vaguely remember Todd having a go at Mifka on one of those 6pr shows when Mifka had the temerity to open his mouth. Along the lines of you should wait till you achieve something before you voice an opinion. Typical arrogant obnoxious Todd. Mifka had no hope once Todd was appointed coach of the Eagles. Todd refused to draft Derek Kickett as well preferring to fill the team with no hopers from Swans.

I worked with mifka briefly at central police station back in about 89. He was very special...just ask him

Do recall he went to trg for a little while and pulled the pin a few years ago

One of my absolute favourite cardie players. Geez he played well on Heatley in the gf. Heatley was unstoppable that year.
