I've been looking at the past players list on Mr Q's website and came across the name of Richard Geary.

Apparently I have early onset Alzheimers as I can't remember anything about this bloke yet according to the site he played 2 games for us in 94. He doesn't exactly loom large in Eagles history.

Can anyone shed light on him, or indeed care to nominate your candidate for the Eagles most obscure player? (leading with my chin for Dockers fans there I think)

Squad member - Dean Warwick, on the list in '87 from the garlic munchers, but suffered leg problems and never played a game. Now it appears the original players can't even find him for a reunion.

Played a game - Cory Young, earned the man from the dark sides wroth.

Scott Bennett.

I remember many years ago Dean Kemp in Supa Valu in Marmion with a huge cartoon bear asking kids "Who wears no. whatever for the Eagles?" (so they got prizes of whatever lollies this bear was giving out) and the answer, which no one got, was Cory Young.

I think I saw Scott Bennett's only game - I remember he played away in Victoria (St Kilda?), ran around a lot and they interviewed him at the after-match function. They said he was in the top 1% or something of AFL players for something (endurance, pace?) and he was saying how his ambition was to become a regular AFL player.

Sad how these things turn out.

Remember watching him run around with the East Freo reserves probably two years after he was drafted, thinking what the hell are our recruiters on?, and then losing faith in our recruiters abilities very soon after.

Last few years have restored that faith though ;)

I've always liked Brendan Retzlaff as my favourite obscure Eagle.

Another one for me would be Michael O'Brien, from just a few years back - I can't for the life of me remember what he looked like, only vaguely remember him full stop.

Richard Geary played 2 games for the club in like 1988/89 i *think*. It says -1993 which just means it prior to the stats that are available.

Good obscure one too really,

michael caton returned to play in the 1996 eagles 10 year anniversary legends vs current team match. remember that match they had as a part of 10 year celebrations glenndining was captain and malaxos i think. All the old boys Zanottim etc, came out and it was great.

Darren Bennett went onto bigger and better things

and we could of turned spider burton into our own, why we didn't use his advantage i'd never know but we had harding and turnball and hynes and irving those days

Haha, I think he means Kevin Caton.

I remember that "Legends" (anyone to be in the squad and a few good players) match, I have the program for it still :)
I'm pretty sure it was just 2 teams of old players though because at the match (totally name dropping, the players I can remember anyway !) Cousins, Morrison, Symmons, Lewis, Jonson Clifton (remember him ?) and Ashley Blurton sat right behind us up in the stand from about half way through the first quarter on.

It's actually pretty uncomfortable having a bunch of players like right there, weird eh

Sean King.

Played a great season for the Munchers in 1987, got his chance to play in the last game of 1987 against the Saints and then got delisted.

A guy by the name of Peter Freeman... not sur eif he played or not... but came here from VIC..... played for West Perth and ended up going to St Kilda.

Brad Gwilliam was another one.... played a few games for the Eagles then went to Richmond and destroyed his knee on a goalpost in Adelaide if I remember rightly.

Kevin Caton went on to play for the Brisbane Bears. It was at that time a retirement village of sorts.

He was mates with Troy Ugle and one evening, Troy, Kevin and Swan Districts legend Peter Ware were out on the town, queued up outside Club Rumours - as one did in those days. Brett Heady walked past the queue and began trying to talk his way in. Whilst he was busy greasing the bouncers' poles, Ugle grabbed his ears from behind. Heady whipped his head around, looking to fix up whoever had grabbed his flappers, and seeing Troy, Peter and Kevin he merely smiled politely and said. "Oh, g'day fellas."

Yeah it is very sad that he didnt get more of a go scott bennett. I actually thought he was an alright player from east freo games i saw at the time. He only played one home and away match against melbourne i think. :(

At around that time the WAFL were experimenting with Friday night games at the WACA.

West Perth were playing somebody one particular Friday night, and Sean King had an absolute blinder.

Funny thing was that me and a couple of mates had spied him in town at lunchtime downing a number of amber fluids at one of the dodgier haunts.

May help explain his disappearance.

I remember Freeman when he played for West Perth. He played at Full Forward and his nickname was "The Freezer"
