Disappointing for a player to be seemingly getting no closer to being a consistently solid performer after 6 seasons in the system. May survive on our list if Eade thinks there is any chance he could turn it around, as he is already contracted for next season. Given his '05 season its unlikely we'll get any better offers for him than we did a year ago, so any trade deal would effectively amount to a delisting from our point of view.

I am a positive person and generally dont like the bagging of our players - fundamentally because I dont think clubs with cultures of success bag their own. Some on the board disagree with me and state they are entitled to their opinions, which I acknowledge and do agree with. But I still feel pretty strongly that to move forward as a club we need a shift in culture to supporting our own and building them up whilst tearing other teams down.

All that said Patrick Bowden really is a baffling and frustrating footballer.
He is undoubtedly a good key position sized player, who seems to have a good spring, good hands, is a reasonable kick for goal, who can at times do really skilful things. His pace only looks an issue when he doesn't have it.

However, he is a very laconic footballer to the extent it is really difficult to tell if he is interested, trying etc. And He seems incapable of any type of second effort. His performance in the VFL grand final could perhaps be best described as dispirited. He may be disappointed about not playing more in the firsts but he really didn't command a spot, and was given loads of opportunities to seize a spot.

So there is still part of me that thinks he is a huge talent who could still be good but another part that is frustrated by his perceived lack of effort.

FWIW I thought he was good in the 3rd qtr of Sunday's GF. Ordinary the rest of the game though.

If Eade's of the view that he probably won't play him, then I'd trade him for very little. Bowden and 27 for 24 from Richmond would do.

If Eade wants one more crack at him then I'm happy to go along with that. He certainly has the ability to be valuable.

Personally I'm a bit indifferent whether he stays or goes. I'm not convinced he'll become a valuable player but I consider him more likely than Skipper, Morgan and Walsh.

Though if we took a punt on Pods, then Bowden's probably a waste on the list.

If we cannot improve our list with some established options at CHB during trade week then we should keep him and mould him into this position over summer. Like already mentioned, he is not exactly priority #1 in the minds of other clubs, so we will be getting 2/5 of bugger all for him right now. He's a little all over the shop without a real position: by giving him a full pre-season to shape up at CHB it might actually force him out of his comfort zone. Moving to CHB certainly worked for Chad Cornes (yes, I know Chad is a better footballer).

I've been saying this for some time. Bowden had a few games at CHB at Werribee, towelled up Nick Holland at Box Hill.

The one game he had at CHB for the Dogs was against Adelaide and McGregor gave him a bit of a touch up, but that was a hard day at the office for our backline. Local and I spent a fair bit of the 2nd half just watching Bowden and McGregor and there wasn't really much more Bowden could have done (other than one glaring error). The supply to McGregor was under no pressure at all and he seemed to be taking most of his marks on the lead, usually sliding on his knees.

The wierd thing about that was Harris was the obvious choice to play on McGregor. Bowden should have played on Perrie or Hentchell, so Eade should take some blame as well.

Certainly worth another try at CHB, at Werribee at least.

How about NO
That's fine. I don't think he has alot of trade value. We won't use many draft picks this year so trading for a late pick would be absolutely stupid as we could be forced to pass in the middle and then use the late pick. The only way I can see a trade happening is a minor upgrade of a midrange pick. Otherwise he just stays on our list for another year.

I would rather not downgrade our 2nd pick as it could be the differenve between getting one of spangher bower or lucy tho are expected to go around there but i actually wouldnt mind Pat if he came cheaply because i think he would pull his finger out and listen to joel and how joel turnt his career around.

Cogs, my understanding is that you will pick up Spangher with your 1st pick, and not your 2nd pick. Miller rates him that highly.

I saw that Werribee game with Bowden at CHB and thought he was excellent, but one swallow doesn't make a summer and surely the club has lost patience with him by now. If we can get any sort of draft pick for him from another club I'd imagine Eade would bite their hand off to take it.

If it all is going to take to turn Pat's career around is talking to Joel, i'm sure that will happen regardless of which club either of them are at.

Seeing they share a house together, there must be an ackward silence at dinnertime.

Maybe it's like the Waugh twins, they rarely spoke because, in Mark Waugh's words, 'we've been speaking to each other all our lives, there isn't much more to say'.

It's time to set Bowden free, wasted enough time and money on this bloke, don't care if he comes good elsewhere, he obviously won't do anything for us.

Shoo Bowden shoo....

Bowden = Gawwwwn

Has the heart a size of the pea and a bloke you wouldnt want with you in the trenches. He can take B. Murphy with him as well.

We can't delist Bowden as he is contraced in 2006. He has done nothing in 2005 to accentuate his trade value, which according to Richmond was only worth trading up 2 spots in the 3rd round of last year's National Draft! That would make him worth precisely squat in this year's trade week.

Of the young talls we have, only one player looks capable of holding down CHB, and he's played less than 20 games of football in his life, and is coming back from a serious leg injury. Surely Bowden would be better value for the Dogs by being kept on the list for another season and being earmarked for CHB. Tom Williams is not ready for a full season in the seniors yet, and if Bowden makes a good fist of it, we have fixed up a glaring weakness in our current structure. Then if he wanted to leave, he'd be a hell of a lot more valuable come trade week in 2006. Worst case is he doesn't make it, then he's about as worthless in 12 months as he currently is now, and young Tom would be ready to assume the mantle of CHB.

Unless Clayton has a Harris/Hargrave/Cross type smoky around pick 60-odd, I don't see the value to the club at all, short or long term, in getting rid of him this year.
