There is a lot of worry in SA that Patrick is very homesick and may request a trade back to Victoria and Geelong in particular.
What would anyone think about a Dangerfield for Menzel trade. He is a SA boy.

Look we all know he is a Geelong boy but i honestly don't think we would trade for him. Our policy over the last 8 or 10 years has been to develop our own and i would really doubt we would trade for him. As for giving up Menzel, it just wont happen. With next years draft apparently a cracker we will be armed with 2 first round picks (with Gaz compo pick) so i dont think we would give up any ofthose. The only way to get it done this year may be our first rounder (pick 25) and a player but i just cant see that happening. I just cant see a deal happening.

I think in a situation like this Geelong would be absolutely foolish to not at least explore the option of getting him to the club given his talent. On the other hand off loading one or more of the players they have put a lot of time and effort in to developing (particularly when they don't want to leave themselves) is not the right way to go. The club have said numerous times guys like Menzel, Vardy, Brown and Duncan are a part of the long term planning and unless its a 2004 Brad Ottens like situation i dont see it happening either.
Love Dangerfield though! i remember wishing he were a cat back when he made his debut a couple of years ago

I heard this rumor not too long ago. Dangerfield is a beauty, both Menzel and Dangerfield are the same age aren't they? 19 or 20 and both have got something very special about them. I reckon Dangerfield is clearly ahead in his development compared to Menzel but we have seen this year that Geelong have been trying Menzel out in different positions across the ground and so far he appears to be a possible Goddard/utility type for our future. I doubt we'd give up Menzel but for Adelaide to lose Dangerfield would be pretty depressing I'd presume being a supporter so you'd wanna make sure they get a damn good swap for a potential top 5 player of the AFL in 5 years time.

If Mark Neeld get's the coaching job at Adelaide next year (pretty good odds) am sure his influence and change of philosophy would be enough to commit any home sick player to an extended stay

Thompson's gone, Scott may see a purpose for Dangerfield. Could be a good get, although it would be disappointing to have to trade Menzel to get him.

Id take Danger in a heartbeat.

Geelong would be foolish not to try, hes still got 10 years of footy in him. However i hope we dont lose Menzel to make it happen.

Not really sure what Adelaide would demand for him, id expect theyd be pretty stingy. A 2nd round pick, Hogan and another young player, although that would be a steal for us

Get your grubby mitts off Denzel,he's happy where he is.
You can have Josh Hunt for free :D

We won't get him this year. He might request a trade now if he's really homesick using the old 'you'll get more for me now while I'm contracted than if I walk at the end of next year' but it won't work, their new coach will back himself to make the team play better and help Dangerfield settle and keep him. We may end up getting him, but it won't be until the end of next year.

As for price, no way would I trade Menzel, no to trading players with that level of talent unless they want to go home (which he doesn't). Unless we finish down the bottom third of the ladder next year and have PSD leverage which is unlikely (I'd rather keep finishing up thanks) then it will cost at least what they paid for him, which meaning he was pick 10 means we'd need to give up the compo pick plus a player (not Menzel). For example compo pick + someone like Hogan (Adelaide need mids) or maybe the hyphen if he wants to go home, although I'd rather hang on to him. Guys like Byrnes might also be useful for something like this.

But like I said let's not worry about it until next year as it won't happen until then.

Out- Hogan + Motlop
In - Dangerfield

And some pic swapping.

No thank you Dangerfield will stay at crows you can keep spuds like Menzel. Christensen is your only young gun apart from Selwood. You guys will have simular thing happen to what crows had this year with alot of expierinced players retire at once soon. Good luck for this year though last role of dice and I hope you beat those dam pies.

Sometimes you make me laugh VC.

No chance that is enough for Adelaide, but well played. :thumbsu:

LOL.

Menzel is not a spud, every club would be happy to have him.

But fear not, we will be keeping him, Bundy, Duncan, Vardy etc. Our young talent is very bright.

No doubt there will be a drop off for us when guys retire but we have planned well for the future and will be fine.

dear lord. what an awful post.

if dangerfield wants to come home, that puts us out of control really. however, if it were during this trade period, we would demand a first rounder + player. at least.

Would you really though? My perception is that given our this draft is so weak, our first rounder (in the 20's) wouldn't have a lot of currency to you, yet another reason why I think it will be a case of 'let's see in 12 months time'. Unless Adelaide are really spooked that he'll go and worried we're genuinely a chance to finish near the bottom next year. I reckon you won't trade him this year.

SA wise, Menzel and Varcoe are essential for the future and will be off limits. The only SA boys we would consider trading would be Mackie, and that's only if he sought out (since he's contracted) to go home for his last few years, or maybe the hyphen (Horlin Smith). I know people keep mentioning Motlop, presumably because his brother's at Port, but I don't see it, partly because Steven doesn't have a lot of currency so I don't think you would want him, and secondly Daniel will probably go to WA after he gets delisted this year, since he has a son there.

i think we would. we hold dangerfield in very, very high esteem here. whether he is actually worth a 1st rounder + a player or not is what needs to be asked by geelong management. would dangerfield add so much to a stellar midfield already that includes giving up a young gun? that's why i see it as unlikely, unless geelong were looking to phase out bartel or someone, which i think is unlikely.

so overall, either geelong will give up something they dont want to, or adelaide will. there can be no real win/win out of this.

Vardy?
Insurance for when Tippet goes.

Bloody heck no, our tall stocks aren't so strong we can afford to do that.

In any case their talls are good, even after losing Bock+Davis. Guaranteed they will ask for mids and we won't be willing to trade any except Hogan or Motlop.

Ebert to Adelaide, Dangerfield to Geelong, Ablett pick and something else to Eagles.

No way is Ebert worth more than Danger.

If it were to happen, Adel first pick (10ish) to Eagles, Ablett pick to Adel, Danger here, Eagles send later picks back to Adel to make it fair (maybe 2nd rounder or player).

I don't see who we would be willing to trade that either club would want.

I would, not sure whether the club would, we shall see. No doubt it's a gamble as it'd be based more on his potential than current output, but I see that in him.

We would never ever trade Bartel. If it were an older player it'd be Mackie, and that's only because he's an SA boy and is eligible for free agency after his current contract anyway.

Other than that you take fringe midfielders, or draft picks to whatever Danger's value is deemed to be I think. Danger would certainly be of use to us given his speed and attack on the ball, and is in the right age group, and most of our current 22 will turn over (i.e. retire) within the next few years, so for sure there's most definitely a role for him here, it's a question of what he's deemed to be worth and whether we think he's worth what you want.
