Paul Bulluss, when he retired started a website devoted to footballers with skills eg tradies etc looking for where they could marry playing football with using their off field skills. What he does now and where is he, sorry don't know.

Went to play at North Ballarat in the VFL. I believe he was studying at university of Ballarat.

Was playing, I believe in the Northerm football league aka Diamond Valley
Football League.

I remember growing up with this list! Not household names but serviceable. I had high hopes for Jurica who kicked 4 goals in a game against North I believe but never really got going. Juricaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

I can't say much about Bulluss except that I do remember an edition of 'fighting tiger' coming out with an ad saying 'Paul Bulluss is looking for work! Will do retail... barwork... anything!' (or something like that). And this is when he was on Richmond's list!

Steve Jurica is some kind of hot shot lawyer. There was a thread about him maybe a year ago. You can probably google him. Interestigly, his work bio has nothing about playing for Richmond (nor Hawthorn). This is the same guy who turned up to the club at 6:30pm in a panic because he'd taken a nap, thought he'd slept through the whole night and missed the 6am training session! They had a cartoon of him at school with sun = day, moon = night on the chalk board :)

I used to live with a guy from Leongatha when I was in London. He told me that Stu Wigney (who is not on that list of names) went to work in Olympic Dam. But that was 12 years ago.

nathan bower(did some good stuff but stuffed up also)
stephen jurica(shoulda, woulda, coulda)
robert powell(hungry and quick and a goal sneak)
john howat(one of a bunch of recruits that seemed to lose 10 meters in pace the moment they pulled on the yellow and black. Played in the 95 finals team, which puts him ahead of many)
trent nichols(classic case of wrong team for this bloke. Super skilled, but playing in a rabble. Needed to be playing in a top side and he would have been a star of the game.)
ross funcke(the funky squad ran straight all day, unfortunately footy needs you to be able to turn as well)
matthew manfield(according to his coach the visionary R Walls, he was the next big thing to hit footy. Kinda ties in with another legendary ex-tiger coach who offered similar words about a certain JON)
brent frewen(Was spewen with frewen)
jason ramsay
damien ryan(Whitey MK1)

thanks guys.

here you go. ;)

REMEMBER the Wallsy comments re Matthew Manfield ... boy could a man be wrong.

Stuart Wigney was running the Waterside Hotel in King Street a few years ago!

yep and then he gets the "experts" gig on the box..go figure.

On Bully, there were much worse than him, pulling on the jumper. In fact i would go as far as to say when it came to one on one marking contests, tipping he wasnt beaten much over the stretch.
He was one of the recruits we got from SA along with...yep the name on everyone's lips, Michael Raidis..;)

He was a drummer also.Had a chat to him back in the 90's at ET's.

A very nice bloke.

I still remember that game up in Sydney when he walked off the ground elated with the finger in the air to signify we were on top of the ladder after a hard fought win against the Swans.

That was the game Richo crashed into the fence and did his knee.

That '95 team had so many characters.

I think that is why they went so far.

They were like a family.

John Howatt played a few games for Melbourne before joining us (IIRC). I think also there was a guy called Moon who also came with him. It was when we grabbed Northey. Howatt had plodder written all over him but did play a few good games. Probably most famous for headbutting John Barnes into oblivion by accident and knocking himself out in the process!

IIRC, Robbie Powell played for Collingwood before us, and infamously got in trouble at the casino for pissing on some girl's leg at the 2-up pit! Clasic rover changing at in the forward pocket, but the game had passed his style of player by, by the mid/late 90's when he was with us.

Trent Nichols was one of the quartet of gun kids we drafted when we were shitful under KB (along with 'face' Lambert, Free and Knights). Went to West Coast for Jackson and Bremen. Eventually went to North and then back to us I think. Was actually a very good player. Easi the best on that list.

Nathan Bower played mainly on the wing and had a lot of the Tivva about him but less maligned. Regularly drove Peter Matera to distraction! Had a bit of pace, but one dimensional.

Jurica was a hulking key forward who looked the goods in '95 in a few games. A bit slow and fat in the Renee Kink mould. Probably would have been a good player in previous eras. I think he went to Hawthorn and later to North Ballarat.

The other guys on the list were nothing special really. Funcke went to Melbourne I think. Damian Ryan stayed on the list for quite a few years and one year was even touted as a future CHB (!)

There's some characters missing from that list and that era:

Stuart Edwards
Adam Slater
Mark McQueen
Todd Menegola
Ed "Richo's brother" Richardson
Justin Plapp
Ben Moore
Pat Steinfort
Chris Naish
Matthew Dundas
Wayne Thornborrow
Clinton King
Brad Smith
A long list of dud ruckmen we sent to Collingwood...
etc etc etc!

Clinton King was fairly effective for a few years as a scrappy rover about 00-01

yeah it effected all of us..our brains are fried..one thing that tigerheads need to know, well for me anyway, what went down back in those days is irrelevant. Totally irrelevant, players getting AFL careers, or extending AFL careers at tigerland, when they would have been walk up starts in suburbia and no other AFL club would have have gone within a zillion miles..we were at the lowest of the lowest and an absolute laughing stock back then and we had a coach that all and sundry were having a chuckle about at our expense. But he wore his heart on his sleeve and all that shit that "endeared" him to the nuff nuffs, but to those that could see had NFi, he also wore his arse on his face. ..;)

Think you mixed him up with Aaron James (incident wise. You described the player correctly). It was at a nightclub. Shane Crawfords brother did the Casino.

Robbie Powell wasnt at Collingwood before us. He went to StKilda for a year after we got rid of him.

Actually I just checked on wikipedia and he was on Collingwood's reserves list before us (no senior games). We got him in the trade for Matty Francis. But you're right, he did go to St Kilda later.

And there were a few pissing incidents in that era... Happy to be corrected :)

Yeah there were a few back then.

Aaron James over women dancing
Crawford on the Casino floor
Modra in the streets of Adelaide.
Charles into a drug testers beaker. (Most regrettable piss of them all.)

Fevola tried to bring it back on shop window. How nineties!! (said in gay voice.).

Warwick Capper into womens drinks at nightclubs. Confessed in his book. Rather gloated about it.

What a wonderful tool google is. Just found what Robbie Powell got in trouble for:

3 July 1999
Age
"Tiger gambles on kiss and wins"
by Steve Butcher
Richmond footballer Robert Powell found not guilty of assaulting a two-up dealer he kissed after a two-up win.

Remember Brian Leys and his pub The Castle in North Melbourne?
I played there every sunday and usually the whole Tiger team would rock up then I'd go to watch Grunt play and Richo would be there haha.
Happy days they were.

Great old pub now got the posho treatment sobs.

Northey.

:(

Premiership 1996 if he stayed.

Maxfield had enough and pissed off.

Probably our best player and loved Northey so much and Northey left.

Still carry scars of '95 .

THe radio announcement that he left.

Felt like shit.

Bloody Walls was the opposite.
Bagged the players where Swoop built em up.

Was reading Richos book a moment ago.

Trent Nichols is a good bloke and likes a beer! :thumbsu:

I have got Howat's and Ramsay's signed jumpers from the Reserves premiership year of 1997 if anyone is keen!

just gotta say i disagree with ya if you think we had the list to win a premiership in 96. bloody hell they massively overachieved in 95 and on that basis one has to wonder what those in charge were thinking in not giving northey what he wanted.

Bumping this super old thread. Bully's sitting about 5 metres from me now, been working with him for about 12 months.

As others have said, great guy, has plenty of stories about the old times.
Ask him if he knows who Francis Bourke is? :p
