I think we should have a crack at this bloke. He is 28 I think but I think he is as underated as any mid in the comp and It might not be the hardest trade in the world to get accross the line. Heres why-

He is an upgraded shane obree. Great in close with cleaner hands and much better disposal.

He was clearly freos number 1 mid this year and with no support got the best tagger each week. At the pies he wont

We are at about 11.50 on the premiership window, have a young list and need a bit more experience to get close to 12.

I reckon he has about 3 maybe even 4 pretty good years left, freo are not going to be contenders in that time so it makes sense for them to try and get something for him while he has currency and I still believe we have a deficiancy in clean inside mids with good skills. IMO he is one of the better ones in the comp who fit that bill. Heres what Id offer

Wellingham and pick 2(31 i think) If that is not enough Id offer pick 3 in excahnge for their pick 4 as well. If that does not work Id consider swaping substituding Wellingham for blight. I know some on here would jump up and down at this but blight while very talented is still unproven and may when out of contract ask to go home anyway so why not strike while the iron is hot.

I think a midfield of Swan, pendles, haselby, Didak and Davis with Thomas(i thought is midfield work showed good signs in the finals) Sidebottom, Beams and Mccarthy in the mix would be very dangerous next year. It gives the last 3 I mentioned a couple more years to develop into key players and has a good mix of inside and outside types with lots of flair and skill as well.

Thoughts??

he just re-signed mate

1 year deal

he didn't like the offer so he shopped himself around Melbourne but no-one was interested. He was a great player in his early years but his body is very fragile now and I don't think he will play beyond next season

He came off a knee had over 20 disposals in 17 of his 22 games and that was with the number 1 tagger each game. On the games I saw he was clearly in freos top 3 players this year with sandi and pav. I reckon he is far from washed up and suprised no one in melbourne was interested in him. He is 28 ffs and if he played 22 games and averages around mid 20 possies each week I reckon his body can't be too bad.

You raise some valid points, but i think we should look for a Luke Ball type or someone who can give that 'little bit' more.

Haselby is a Luke Ball type, in fact he probably has more football left in him the Luke Ball, who has chronic injury problems.

Sorry Matty, ill try be abit more specific, yes i agree with you that they are a 'similar' type of player, i would personally prefer if the club was after that type of mould of a player, we should go for a Luke Ball. I think he is hungrier to play given the lack of oppurtunity hes had of late, and given the oppurtunity he usually performs. I feel he has abit more to give than Haselby. Yes they both have had documented injuries and as also said, Haselby is contracted and seems to be sporting afew too many KGs.
