Gday Im new here and this is my first post. As a victorian based supporter I dont get to see any WAFL action and I was just wondering if anyone new what was happening with Paul Johnson. I remeber when we first drafted him in the 20's he was meant to be an awsome pickup and I was thinking that with the lack of key talls at the start of the year maybe this would be his big chance. I heard that he got injured early on but I hear hes been playing in the WAFL latley. So I was wondering if anyone knew how hes been playing and if they can see him breaking into the team anytime soon, or whether he should be traded at the end of the season.
Cheers.

Welcome. Whether he should be traded and whether he will get a game soon are two different issues. The fact that he hasn't yet been offered a contract extension while fellow 2002 draftees Staker and Selwood both signed two-year extensions about a month back suggests we are keeping our options open with him. I think he showed in the preseason he can play at AFL level but his injury has seen fall behind a whole bunch of players for a forward position including Gardiner, McDougall, Gaspar, Hansen, Seaby, Staker etc. I think he can play but he is probably better off going to another club for an opportunity. We will probably sell him to a team like the bombers for a 3rd round pick where Sheedy will turn him into a star.

Thanks coasting. If he has showed that he has the ability to be a good forward then do you think we could persist with him for another couple of years and maybe he could play centre-half or somthing. If we trade him cheap and he turns good than havent we lost out big time? Like wouldn't it be better to stick with him?

he has promise. im not sure if we really need him enough to make him stay against his will. we will probly look at any trade offers, he will more than likely be used as a sweetner in a deal to get a hay or stenglien to the club.

So if he comes back to Melbourne do you think he'll do any good?
Reports over gere are that he lacks a bit of ticker and has spat it a few times.

Being homesick I'm sure is a huge part of that.
