Has this guy got anything worth salvaging, if he's ditched by Port? He seems to do alright at SANFL level... but can't get a game for the Power... Would you, having seen him play, recommend him to another club (in particular the Swans) as a pickup, if he's delisted?

I know Essendon are supposedly keeping an eye on him. What would you be offering?

He's a great guy, great player - tears them up at SANFL level but he just really seems to be out of favour down at Alberton. As much as I dont want to see him go at the end of the year (hell, I dont want to see ANYONE go. I'm too close to this years playing list. :(), he might be on his way.

Anyone who's been a no. 12 pick must be OK. But experience in a state league will never improve him, he has to get a chance in the AFL. I can't see this happening at Port but he would be a good pick up for any club.

Essendon, Collingwood and the Bulldogs have all been showing interest, while supporters believe he would also be a good pick-up for Carlton.

I'd be disappointed to see him leave Port though... and in a few years I think Port would be too. *If* given the opportunity to shine he will. At Port right now that's kind of hard given the depth of the midfield, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't kept for another year and given a chance at the AFL... it would be unfair not to try him.

I don't think I'd really offer anything - three games in three years (or is it four?) isn't really going to add to his trade value. I'm merely seeing him as a potential late-round draft pick... the posts on this thread seem to indicate that he'd be worth it.

Played three games in 2001 from what I remember. Been named as an emergency 571039468619501060968 times (okay I'm exaggurating here, but you get my point.) and just cant crack the side. After some consideration I'd say he's definitely gone.

In reality, this year could be termed his first "proper" year, as he has had a terrible time with injuries.
At this point it seems that he will be allowed to play out the rest of the year in the SANFL to give him some confidence back, and thus I'll be surprised if he is not offered a contract at years end. I think he is coming out of contract, but could be wrong.
Williams has a habit of giving players he will trade or delist a go in the ones first.

Why would Sydney want him? They have plenty of those type players anyway. You're better off looking for another key defender.

Bulldogs would not touch him. They would be mad if they did. They need key position players. If they trade for non key position players, they will stay down the bottom.

Essendon and Carlton are possibilities. However, if he was to go anywhere, if he was delisted, which he most likely will (depending on retirements), my money is on Essendon.

Carlton would be better off developing their young players as is. They could trade their late draft picks though for players if they wanted. So he could end up going there, but realistically, my money would be on Essendon if he goes anywhere at all.

2000 - R18 v Bulldogs, 20 v Hawthorn, 21 v Carlton
2001 - ACR3 v Kangaroos

Can't be bothered listing all the times he's been an emergency but from memory it would be 6, including 3 this year.

He has a chance of staying as he's definitely redy to step into the AFL side and would be an able replacement in event of injury.

The thing that worries me most is that if someone gets injured and all these players who can't quite make the side for whatever reason (no room, not liked, no match-up, whatever) are gotten rid of and then there's nobody redy to step in in case of an injury/suspension...

He is out of contract and he's starting talks at the end of the season, I believe.

This is the first year he's been able to play "every" week, yes, but he was injured late into the preseason and probably would have missed round one if not for West's bye. Whatever they've done with him at the club seems to finally be working. Yippee!!

He'd have got a game at most clubs this year and would have played the majority of games at a number of clubs based on this years form. His problem is that it's bloody hard to fit 30 players into a starting 22. Unfortunately his form has been very good when there is no chance of there being a place for him. Had he had a good start to the year, he'd probably have got a game before Salopek (on occassions), Cassisi & Hall. I'd probably keep him on but who do you delist?? He'd be a good pick up for any of the bottom 8 sides.

We don't really have to chop anyone I think.
We are one short to start with, and with the new rules we can elevate a couple of players on the veterans list.
If someone gets the chop it will be because the committee decides that they aren't good enough, or there are better options around.

But delisting and drafting is not based on your requirements but is a compulsory part of being in the AFL. Being short on the list means rookies can be elevated with no extra delistings needed. And the vets list saves space in the salarycap, but not the no on the list.
Not that I'm not ready to be proved wrong, but I'm pretty certain there have to be at least 3 new draftees. Unless Paxman and Hardwick retire, at least one player will have to go.

That's pretty much how I understand it.
At the moment we can draft one..Vacant spot.
We can elevate one to the veterans list...Second draftee.
If Paxman retires like has been hinted at all year, then we can elevate a second player to the vets list and make room for the third without having to delist anyone.

But you also have to consider elevating rookies, and Patfull would have to be some chance, maybe even Borlace. Then again, you can have more than two veterans so Paco wouldn't have to retire - IIRC we have 3 eligible next year (incl Paco). All too hard, head is spinning ...

Exactly.
If anyone is delisted, it will be because the committee thinks that either they are not quite good enough, or there are better options around such as elevating one or both of our rookies.
This year is not as clear cut as other years when we were forced to delist "just for the sake of it".
