How do you think he will go next year? The opposition will be more prepared to take him on obviously. Will he suffer second year blues or will he kick on and slot through 30 goals for the year.

Ah the infamous second year blues.

I think Medhurst will go ok next year, because he has had to work hard to get into the AFL (done the hard yards at WAFL level), rather than relying on his natural talent like alot of school boy champions.

If you looked at two tapes, one in his first games and compared it with towards the end of the season, you will see that he has learnt alot. He has continue to pick up tricks during the year and thus as he developed the opposition had to combat another aspect of his game.

As he is a worker at his game, I think he will continue to improve as he knows that having been through a good long grounding in the WAFL, he doesn't know everything and you must keep working year in year out on your game.

Second year blues I would think would be more likely to affect a kid straight out of school making the "big league". Medhurst should be old enough to adapt to the changes required.

Next year Medhurst may play second string to Farmer who may spend more time in the forward pocket.

Medders will be a great second year player. I wouldn't go writing him off too early. He might just prove everyone wrong

I am sure that The Do will have an even better year in 2003 than he had this year.I believe that he will be a 50+ goal kicker next season.
He will be stronger in the body and legs so will be able to hold his ground even better.
A new excitement machine may have been born.

Medhurst will go really well next year, he works hard on his game and puts everything into his footy, he'll do well again;)

(for those wondering i have been a medhurst fan for ages and wanted him at West Coast)

Medhurst's a future star.. he's got the attitude, the work ethic and the talent to do it all..
I don't think I've ever seen a small bloke take such a good mark so consistantly.. I think next season he'll be focussed on scoring the crumbed goals around the pack though.. his centre of balance gives him too much of an advantage at ground level not to use.. If he bulks up a little during the off season and If we're lucky we'll see the start of the next step as well... depends on Connolly's mind for him but should the chance present itself I think we'll see him spend some time in the midfield adding a valuable new string to his bow.

Welcome to BigFooty mate. Top post.

By the way, you a Freo supporter? Lions supporter? Just curious.

Don't want to seem 'MeddersInsensitive", but I can honeslty see the likes of Croad pulling out all the stops next year and having a HUGE one. I'm actually predicting him for B&F2003. Subsequently, I think Medders may have a quiet one compared to this year.

Danke Kenny..
Yeah I'm a Bears'come'Lions man with a soft spot for most teams outside Victoria and a few within.

I really think you will find Medhurst lacks the foot speed or endurance to run in the midfield.

Plus I think all he really wants to do is kick goals (and maybe take gigantic screamers). And I'm sure we will see plenty of that in the next decade.

He'll be even better next year.

Medhurst will build endurance with time.. I dare say a full AFL season straight up will have taught him an invaluable lesson.. In the foot speed stakes I think he may be a little deceptive.. When he decides to step on the pedal the boy can move and his agility enhances this greatly.. also with his frame he's small but deceptively powerful.. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up a quality in and under midfielder..
At this stage in his career leaving him up forward to kick those goals is a good option.. allow him to toy with his obviously natural goal sense and watch him develop his footy smarts down there.
Other than his marking ability he reminds me in a big way of a young Luke Power developing into a deadly goal sneak hence my seeing him down the line in the midfield..
I say this because I see the way he reads the game now and I get the distinct impression with further development work he'll develop into a smart, hard, in and under type midfielder with the ability to run forward and hurt the opposition big time.
