1. As Port supporters we always expect to have the window of opportunity open permanently.
If that sounds arrogant, than so be it. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

2. Wow. Not sure if that is all disjointed or not, but I was just taken out for a Fathers Day dinner. Tomorrow is Footy day, and hopefully it will be a good result this time. :)

1. Yes, that does sound arrogant, and no, that isn't the way it is. That's the way it used to be in the SANFL, but in a 16 team comp it Can never be that way year after year permanently because of the effect that the draft and salary cap have on a combined basis.

2. Good luck for tomorrow - with a Jonah like me going to it, and I am, you'll need it!! ;)

I was also there for the loss to Hawthorn, the loss to Collingwood and the loss to Sydney.

I gave Port a break, and didn't go to the win over Essendon last year!! :p

Isn't there something else you might want to do instead of going to the footy? :p

This whole Pavlich scenario does not surprise me. He's a talented, young ball-magnet who has not found his true position yet and looks the type that needs new surroundings - or in this case, old surroundings, which is even better. ;)

This is proved further by the fact that the Dockers lack a good CHF. Pavlich is not one. Perrie is. Of course, we would have to trade more than just Sarge, but it would be best to work around him.

And yes, I am aware we would also most likely have to trade our 1st round draft pick to snare him. This is, perhaps, why I am somewhat apprehensive towards this trade.

Ok l have read the post regarding M Pavlich and if we can entice him back to west lakes it will be a good step in making us a finals contender again. Is there any truth in the fact that his is unhappy with what is going on and if so “is he willing to come home”

T Stenglein and B Burton for Mathew Pavlich and their 3rd round pick.

Is this trade option true or just idol gossip and we are getting our hopes up.

Can Pav even be traded?

Didn't he sign a 3-year contract earlier this year?
Contract extension I think.

Pavlich apparently is quite unhappy there, he is copping a lot of flak from fans and the media for not producing what they want him to.

Are you still allowed to be traded if it is a contract extension even if you are only in the first year of that extension?

But next season will be the first year to that contract extension, this year will still be considered as the old contract. Contracts run out on November 29th or something like that.

So he is defintely tradeable.

In the words of Jim from American Pie "Please God, let this be it."

This is not a crows supporter suggesting that it is a good strategy to pay over the odds for an aging injury prone former champion in order to take that final elusive step for a flag is it ?

Ever heard of a guy called Carey ?

What is driving Port at this stage is Tredrea, Cornes *2, Burgs *2, Cassisi, Carr all of who are 26 or under.

Hardwick is a fringe player, James will be missed in a couple of years but Ebert & Salopek will have a go. Wakes will be missed but Mr D Wakelin is hardly the reason Port finished on top.

Carr > Mcloed
Carr > Johncock

You fill in the rest

Brisbane > Port - At least you get the trophy for finishing minor round premiers, what's that trophy called again???

Yeah he is tradeable and like Jim in the American pie movie, the AFC wont score the big deal, nice but no cigar. Cannot see Mathew Pavlich leaving Fremantle

When Pavlich signed a contract with Freo last time he singed a 3 year deal that is set to expire at the end of 2005 season. Now he has signed a 2 year extension on top of that so he is contracted to Freo until the end of 2007 season. My understanding he can be traded BUT I don't think it will happen.

Stiffy, have you caught up with your source yet?
Any word on the Waters deal? I have heard again that Waters is homesick but not sure if he is prepared to leave WC yet.

waters is homesick!! spoke to one of his mates today, he hates perth and wants to move back to adelaide, preferably adelaide!

Call me an eternal pessimist, but after previous tradeweeks I would not be at all surprised if at the eleventh hour we broke off advanced talks with Pav and instead traded the family silver for either Sav Rocca or Alistair Lynch.

The time has come to be aggressive and opportunistic rather than reactionary for a change. Only if we're smart will names such as Pavlich and/or Waters may be a silly chance of coming through the door.

We need a big name. A real big name. Not a broken down has-been who will retire after 18 months.

We're long overdue to aim big and recruit big - other teams have. In recent years:

Brisbane have snagged a Blake Caracella.
Carlton have snagged a Nick Stevens
Collingwood have snagged a Shane Woewodin
Fremantle have snagged a Des Headland
Hawthorn have snagged an Peter Everitt
Port Adelaide have snagged a Byron Pickett
Richmond have snagged a Kane Johnson and Nathan Brown
Sydney have snagged a Barry Hall

So for all our resources and attraction, where is ours?

It's time.

Adelaide are mad if they don't go for Pavlich.

Definetaly be parting with your first pick though, and even though at the start of the year you guys said you wouldn't do that under any circumstance (at least that is my recollection - could be wrong), Pavlich is young and not much older than a new draftee.

The deal before isn't a bad one.

McLeod to Port, Pav to Crows, Steinglein to Dockers, Carr to Dockers.

But 1) McLeod deserves to finish at the Crows, and shouldn't be shafted by the club that he has done so well for like that, and 2) Port aren't going to accept McLeod for Carr.

Yes, we can talk about this window of opportunity, but i still think Port's will be open for quite a while. They aren't that old (without being a young team) and will be looking to stay up in the finals for the next 5 years i reckon.

But change McLeod for something else (need a little more than a first rounder) and there is a possibility of getting something happening.

A trade could also end up with Damon White and West Coast getting involved too.

How many more years before Judd goes home do you reckon?
a good 10 to 15 years i reckon.

How would this sound for a trade:
WCE Pick 12 to PA
PA Josh Carr to Freo
Freo Matt Pavlich to Crows
Crows Tyson Steinglein to WCE
PA Damon White to Freo
Crows Pick 8 to PA

That's a big win for Port...picks 8 and 12 for Josh Carr and Damon White only.

Depends what side of the suburb you live in.

Would you be happy with picks 8 and 12 for Hentschell and Goodwin?
