I am a big beliver of a positive or finding a silver lining in any cloud and after having a few more scotch's and kicking out out all my di.ckhead freo mates from my house, have calmed down enough to say how rapt i am in young scott.

The boy was very good today, unlike the rest of his midfield partner's in crime

Totally agree.

he is our future star. He played his guts out today, and with a bit more confidence he will start to shine.

Pity the rest of our team was so insipid

Yep definately agree, he was one of very few shining lights today.

At the game I decided to watch him more carefully than usual.

This kid is going to be very good, he is a natural at reading the ball.
He makes a few wrong decisions but only because he is thinking of the team instead of himself (which is a good thing).
What I mean is, when he is clear he should take the long kick or shot on goal or whatever, but he sometimes try's to bring team mates into the play when he should be a little more selfish.

He is able to put himself "where the ball is".
He will take a couple of pre-seasons to bulk up but he will be a very good onballer.

Haven't got the Sun yet, so anybody have an actual figure of his gametime? Would've seen 80 mins max I would've thought. One of very few positives to come out of yesterdays game.

74 minutes.

He was very good for us.

Makes a mistake or two every game but I really like the boy. I think he’ll be very good. His steal from Paul Williams is the moment of the season for me.

I agree Mark, but do you think his mistakes are 'good mistakes', if you know what I mean ie they are not clangers as such

A bit of both. He fumbled an O’Bree handball that hit in in the right spot which rebounded to some no name for his first goal in the AFL on Sunday. Sometimes he shoots out an errant handball that causes a turnover but that’s fine at this stage. He does do a lot of link work. What strikes me is his ability to get to a position to provide an option which you alluded to. He was written up as an outside player/receiver pre draft but I don’t think that is correct. He does get in good positions to receive but he seems to get involved in the congestion play as well.

He seems to have good instincts and that is what separates the very good players from the also rans. That is what I really like and why I loved his steal from Willow.

All credit to Hine. Pendlebury was a risk outside the conventional draft order wisdom and looks to me like a great get.

This kid is excatly what Collingwood needs, only we need 10 more of him. The most impressive aspect to his game besides his skill is the poise he plays with. Incredible really for a guy with less than 10 games experience. Both
himself and Dale Thomas are guaranteed to be leading the teams midfield in 3 years time, but who else will be there to help them?. Maybe Heath Shaw will have to make the move to the midfield.

As it stands now however we still have one of the worst midfield's going around. Until we are willing to trade away a big name such as Tarrant or Rocca in order to get a really high pick so as to get some more quality kids into the club we will not seriously challenge for a flag in the years to come.

That was O'Bree's fault. The handball was a bad option to a teammate no more than a few feet away, who was not expecting it.

It's probably reading too much into it but that could be the basketball mentality. The great basketball players make thier teammates so much better.

Personally the whole basketball thing is overrated. He has played footy for the past two years at the highest U18 level and performed very well in terms of getting the footy. At to that his height, agility and evasiveness I don't see why people would be so hesitant (although he was always regarded as a 1st rounder and I think WCE recruiters had him in their top 3 or even #1).

Maybe but these things happen all the time in the hustle and bustle. Scott Burns takes it and dishes off. Pendlebury fumbles it and a turnover goal results. That is not a criticism of an 18 year old first year player but he has made a couple of mistakes each week. Not unexpected really. A first year Didak might have taken the ball but a first year Didak probably wouldn’t have been there to take it. I really like the look of this one.

I think the mistakes that he makes are when he's in a high pressure situation like someone giving him the ball when he's got opponents very close. It's due to the speed of the game, something that he'll get used to with experience.

I see what you mean but there are heaps of times where he gets the ball, or is given it in tight situations and just dances himself around opponents like everyones in slow motion.
