Saw the 10 questions with Wiggins and he says he used to worry a lot about what the fans though of his kicking.

So who's fault is it that the boys at Carlton are having trouble hitting a target? People like us? People who post week after week about how crap this are that persons kicking was? (maybe some of the boys visit this forum?). People who yell things out at the match and give our boys a roast. People in the street who might comment on 'that clanger from the weekend'.

I reckon this would have an impact on some of the younger players, especially when expectations are high (Andrew Walker). Maybe we should lay off a little?

i don't think we have seen the best of simon wiggins. i have been really impressed with his form since he has come back into the side and with some more confidence and increased game time hopefully his disposal will improve. He is one of many players at carlton fighting to be retained on the list at the end of the year and i hope he stays. :thumbsu:

Fair comment. I've always been a fan of Wiggins but, like most people, have been frustrated by his inability to hit a target. Maybe we should try to focus on some positives that these guys bring to the side. He always goes 100%, puts his body on the line and chases hard all day. Some of the more skilled guys in the side could watch and learn from his efforts a lot of the time.

I wasn't impressed, as much as some others on this board, with his performance against the Saints I thought he turned it over a lot and his man (Jason Gram) could've got 5 goals had he kicked somewhat straight. He was much better this week and I would think he'll be staying next year.

At this point...
Livingston
Davies
Longmuir
Chambers
Bryan
Prendergast
Bannister
Raso
Sporn (Likely traded to Adelaide for a late pick)
Koutoufides
Batson *
Smith *

... Will not be getting new contracts IMO. So that's a lot of people playing for their future and a hell of a lot of draft picks in the super draft if they don't show something.

I would suspect they might Rookie list Raso, after delisting him.

On the statement that we pressure them too much... they're paid to play football. If they're too mentally weak to handle criticism they should get a different job.

Can't argue with your logic, except for Raso. He will be treated as a first year player this year rather than last. He is the sort of skilled player we need to develope and should be given more time on the senior list.
I also think Livo will be put on another 1 year contract, I know he can't kick but at the moment he is probably the only guy that can be classed as a Gorilla on our list. When he plays our defense does look more balanced.

Sorry i dont agree with smith being delisted i think he will be promoted. As for pressuring them too much, could these players kick the ball before we drafted them? Because if there disposal was this bad in the u18s our recruiting staff should be sacked. They are professional athletes who should be able to handle critism.

well, i would have thought that they should be able to handle critisismand even moreso, I would have thought they wouldn't care...but I'm wrong and they do care and it does impact on them. As well as being professional athelets, they are also people and in many cases not adults yet.

There's a chance Raso could get another shot just because 8-9 draft picks in one year may be a bit much. He hasn't impressed the staff though from all reports (including on this very website in the last couple of days.)

The Smith one is interesting. As I've said on the rookies thread, it's not like he's a bad player, it's just there's nothing special about him. Not overly clean with disposal, not overly quick or able to break lines, not overly aggressive at the ball and you ask yourself what is his position at AFL level? not sure.

I would think atleast one that I've listed will be retained on a one-year deal based on their performance this year. Let's hope it's not Prendergast...

It's a good point about Livingston's body type. Wouldn't surprise me if there where a couple of trade sniffs (Richmond possibly, depending on whether they get Travis Gaspar.) He's going to have to beat some big names soon in order to stay at the Blues.

Pssht they are professional full time football players! If they don't have the mental strength to block out everyday people's critcism, then they probably don't deserve to be where they are.

whether they should or not is irrelevant. the facts are (based on Wiggins' comments) that they don't and they are affected by the fans.

Well I don't think it's accurate to say 'they' are. Certainly the elite players in the league aren't. It's part of the job you have to come to terms with.

Ok, let me ask you then:

Do we need mentally weak people in our side?

Agree totally about livo, smith has one thing that alot of our midfielders dont have, courage, he isnt scared to put his head over the ball and he is a in and under player which is something we are lacking.

not if they stay mentally weak, but at the beginning of careers, it's understandable....

 I have seen Smith a couple of times and it seems to me, that when he is given a chance he gets the hard pill and normally does something with it. He seems to be a reasonable size ( around 183-185cm) and could develop into a good back flanker or good in and under player.

I also hope that they keep Batson, because at 19 and 202 cm / 96kg he could develop into a really good long term ruckman.

Raso is just a baby, but apparently can play when he puts his mind to it. All he probably needs is a good mentor who can help him along the way.Worthwhile keeping on the list for another year or 2:thumbsu:

I'd suspect Batson will be redrafted onto the rookie list. Appears to have been getting goals and into the best players more regularly at VFL reserve level. This 12-10 rule is killing player development, because coaches are now playing at a maximum 14 AFL listed players even against aligned teams.

Smith does have courage certainly, good points. There's a lot more skilled players that'll be available in this years draft, even late, that will be better overall packages than Smith is my take on the thing.

Yeah yeah, the blues are playing like junk and its our fault.
yes, that's what i'm saying, although I expect we are only 1% or 2% of the problem. nonetheless, i'm willing to take responsibility for my .001% of the 1%.
