DD has his agenda....like me he believes the REASON for war was wrong

If you truly believe that what America is doing in Iraq is good then your an idiot. They have created a breeding ground for hatred and further incitement towards the west. WHY? To hide the fact that GWB couldnt find a raghead in a cave.

If you are so highly motivated to rid the world of dictators or police states please list Nth Korea as your next port of call...or do you think its time for peace

You make a persuasive argument.

You are a credit to the anti-war movement. Never have I been pierced by such piercing analysis; such clarity of purpose; such assurance of hope...

PerthCrow,

Mate, I reckon it's you who should look at the names of the American soldiers who have died in Iraq.

Every single one.

If it does nothing else at least this complex thread gives us a better understanding of the misery generated by the deaths in Iraq. The death tolls of this man-made disaster and the natural disaster are currently similar and we are getting plenty of TV images of the misery in the Asian horror. Somehow we seem to more readily accept the deaths caused by man's inhumanity to man.
Brilliant PA HOG and exactly what I was trying to say in my own naive way

And what?

Answer this question: Is Iraq better off now than in Feb 2003?

Untold numbers of dead and wounded and for what? I do not think anyone really knows, least of all the idiots who started it.

I only have one point to make on this thread as the debate is paticularly ill informed, it has been asserted the US has killed more Iraqis than Saddam in this war.

Even if we are to take the largerest figure, of 100,000 killed in the war, this includes those killed by the Baithists and insurgents, and this study is subject to huge statistical varients the way it was conducted, it is estimated Saddam killed 200,000 to 500,000 Iraqis, and perhaps a million people in the region in his two wars. And the Iraqi tyranny would have kept on killing, and as Saddam revealed in his first appearance before the Iraqi tribunal, he would have attempted to once again kill in Kuwait once the sanctions were lifted and he could re-arm. In fact he was attempting to re-arm with the sanctions.

And the distinction must be made between Saddam's intentionall killing civilians to inflict terror and the US accidentally killing civilains because insurgents use them as cover.

My "ill informed" contribution reflected upon the misery generated by the loss of life. A death accidently caused by the goodies (wearing white hats) is no less sad than one inflicted intentionally by the bad guys (wearing black hats) or a death resulting from a natural disaster.

What was wrong with the status quo? Iraq was peaceful ,prosperous and moving ahead.

Notwithstanding their need to defend anyone with a USA-loathing bent, even the staunchest anti-war proponent would have to raise a chuckle at that one ...

I should have quoted, my post was in relation to Deamon Dave's assertion that the US has killed more people than Saddam.

And while I believe motive, and more importantly from a historical point of view outcome, (to which the US may be judged very harshly in Iraq if the present course continues) is always important in assessing how or why such deaths occured, I can agree with your statement that all deaths are sad, tragic.

If only Iraq were a question of peace and security vs war, the decision would have been an easy one. Unfortunetly it was one of tyranny and insecurity vs war. A lessor of two evils choice. Which is which, is a perfectly fair debate.

Well done. No sarcasm, no ill-mannered comments, just a perfectly reasonable response to my post. Thanks. Others could learn from your forbearance.
