Well, its a new day and the sun is shining.

The thing is and we are all guilty of this is we have our extremes and last night, last week and the weeks before show it splendidly.
Win by 75, lose by 49, win by 32 then lose by 51.

We have not won a home game but lets look at who we have played at home:-

Round 2 - Reigning Premiers, Brisbane
Round 4 - Wok Premiers and currently unbeaten (beaten the Premiers, won in Perth etc), St Kilda
Round 8 - A side predicted early in the season to finish top 4 and had their strongest ever side to come to Adelaide, Essendon

And the other game was against Port, who whilst injury laden, still have won the last 7 showdowns and finished minor Premier for the last 2 years.

The point is we are a middle of the road side and will likely finish somewhere between 7 to 12. We have played probably the top 4 at AAMI in the first 8 rounds and barring last nights result had played competitively. We are just going to have more extermes until the end of the year. Enjoy the rollercoaster ride.

Depending on your expectations, this is a great time, to be looking at kids, trying new kids, and hopefully seeing the next superstar evolve. Which one - well who knows?.

I am prepared for Adelaide to lose, but not the way it was last night. Too many regulars didn't stand up.

I want to see Watts, Rutten, Parker, Dabrowski, Skipworth, M. Smith, Kreuger (if fit), Schuback, Hazell given a game.

I don't want to see bad losses with the majority of senior players there.

I know we all hate M Smith on this board, but having seen how much he has bulked up, and how well he is playing at FB for Sturt, I would like to see him given a senior game.

I know I've mentioned some rookie-listed players there, but if Stevens doesn't come up, one of those will be upgraded.

Playing kids in sides that getting thrashed is not good for their development.
We have to remain competitive, and have kids in the side, surrounded by experienced players of whom they can learn.
The kids, by their SANFL form, have to earn a try, not simply be given one, to "trial" them. It doesn't go well for the club culture, and I'm sure the club will not go down that path.

Don't foreget we were only 17 points down, well into the last qtr. Wouldn't call that too bad, yes we dropped off inthe last 9 minutes, but thats inexperience as well.

What I would like to see by the end of the year and probably the last couple of rounds especially so if our year is over is to see Carey and Watts on the FF line. I reckon the kid would get a huge buzz out of it and be the stepping stone for greater things.....
I think it will kappen for sure, but last night proved Carey needs space to roam, and FF is he can't play FF.
More likely to see Carey HFF, and Watts in a pocket, but yes it will be a huge buzz for the kid.

Spot on my friend. Its all about what your expectations are. Personally, while still possible, I don't expect to make the finals. What I am looking for in these games is how our youngsters are performing and are they improving. We have to agree that some of our youngsters have shown some pretty good signs for us and in a lot of losses so far this year they have done a reasonable job. Hentschel has had 2 stinkers butin other games he has been good to very good. As I said in te other thread we cannot expect them to perform to their potential week in week out, quarter in quarter out. Its a roller coaster ride that any rebuilding side goes through. We are no different.

So true - I'm actually enjoying this year more than last year. Coming into this season the whole club had a staleness (is that a word?) about it to me, and it's exciting watching younger players getting game time. Hopefully Reilly, Schuback and Rutten will come into the team soon, and Watts and Krueger later in the season.

It's great to see Begley showing us what he is capable of - I think he'll be an AA player in the coming years.

Dunno about that but he's certainly shown enough to suggest he's going to remain an AFC first-18 player in the coming years.

I used to love watching the reserves games when watching SANFL. It was exciting trying to see the youngsters perform, and who was going to take the next step.
Trouble is when you look at our list, the stats, and history show, that few of the current crop, who haven't made afl regularly yet, will in fact make it.
Its that eternal lookout for the next very good player, that ends up with everyone talking young players up, in the hope...
Unfortunately often we become disappointed, when it doesn't eventuate.

When trying to recall when we last time we lost our 1st 3 "home" games, I was also thinking that we have played probably 4 of the eventual top-6 sides. Whilst we are not as bad as our 2-6 record, it also means we are not yet good enough to have a crack the flag, given at best we will finish in 7th-8th (but will probably just miss out). This is more reason why we need to continue playing the kids to speed up their development & regenerate our side.
