Perth Stadium

Australians are different to the rest of the world.
I grew up in Melb. where plenty of people go along as neutral supporters. I used to go along with mates for a day out. No matter who was playing.

You make it sound like its only permissible for Eagles or Dockers supporters to go. That makes for a really good atmosphere

As for telling me to go watch the WAFL, i'll rephrase it. I love watching AFL live no matter who's playing

A situation that is possible due to Melbourne having 9 teams

It was normal in WA pre national comp - as a Subi supporter I saw plenty of the Royals just as my mates saw Subi.

In Melbourne 2014, the drop in crowds can be traced to increasing 11 game club memberships putting pressure on household budgets resulting in not attending away games.Thats a Kwality interpretation of the situation, not one canvassed in the Melbourne media.

The only recent big infrastructure project in Perth that has been on time and not over budget is the Mandurah train line. Expect this one to be a couple of years behind schedule and $100 million over budget.

Hate to think I feel I agree with you. Perth big projects usually take very long, and they usually make some massive stuff up too and don't account for something critical.

I hope they get this one right at a decent time. I hope there is no issue with the soil as some mentioned a while back.

100% agree. Recent issues with Etihad and AO have been the priorities of stadium management and its stakeholders haven't aligned with tenant clubs

WCE and Freo have a very friendly arrangement right now at Subi, you would want to know who is running this joint, who they answer to, and what their priorities are

Its under the Eventscorp banner as it stands with no stadium manager nominated as such.

I remain hopeful that WA footy pushes hard for management rights given the WAFC has a proven record at Subi & is not some lacky of the AFL. Nick Sautner the current chief at Pattersons was with the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne before heading West.

Our last premiership year (2006) we had one crowd under 40k (39,400) all season. Membership today vs then is really no different. Demand for memberships is inflated by the ground capacity, attendances fluctuate on form.

I think with a 60k seat stadium our 40k (real - yeah we have 58k or something but I'm only talking about people who have a seat for 11 games a year) members will hold if not grow. Some will drop off because they don't *need* a membership to see footy any more, others who have missed out because the blue rinsers have held all the memberships but are die-hards will jump on board. Plenty on the waiting list will just attend games casually.

I anticipate there will be an Adelaide Oval-esque novelty value associated with the ground opening and 2018, ha, I mean year one attendances will be sky high. I'd expect many games to be sell outs, particularly if West Coast and/or Freo are doing well at the time.

Agree with most of this but it's still too early to assess how much of a factor the "novelty value" really is yet, no doubt it plays some part and may continue to do so far a few years but surely it's proximity to the city and sheer quality are the outstanding reasons for it's huge success. Hopefully this occurs for us too (location obviously not as good but the footbridge to EP/Belmont parking options and quality PT infrastructure ensures it's easily accessed by most in the metro area and with the price tag you'd ****ing hope it's the best stadium in the world when finished).

I'm pretty sure the plan is that no sporting code gets management rights to the stadium which they can turn to their advantage over others. The stadium management will be looking to maximise the number of events attracted to the stadium.

& the WAFC have pedigree ... standing up to the AFL over scheduling finals by accepting a booking from Rugby was roundly criticised by AFLcentric numnuts led by the mouth from Toorak & his sidekicks at AFL House. Remember the treachery claim less than 12 months back

True, but I don't think it will get them over the line.

Granted, that was a major f***up. They booked that test before the 2013 AFL year started. Considering both Fremantle and West Coast were premiership contenders at the time, it was not out of the realm of possibility that both Freo and West Coast could host separate semi finals. With the test on the Saturday it would have been AFL-Rugby-AFL in the space of 3 days, and screw backing up from a semi with a 6 day break and travel.

The new stadium should have a membership cap.

If it has 60k seats and there are 60k WC/Freo members then it is a waste of govt funds.

What about away team supporters? What you are saying is fair only if west coast fans are not allowed into any other stadiums such as the MCG for away games.

I think he was suggesting the opposite - that membership should be capped under 60k so opposition fans can still get in.

Not sure I entirely agree with the logic tbh - Freo/eagles members are as much contributing taxpayers as fans of opposition clubs. And our membership money essentially pays for all football development in this state.

(Unless he means travelling fans spending tourism dollars, but I imagine they make up a tiny proportion of away fans for H&A games).

Since when have away supporters been able to watch matches in Perth anyway? Not much will change.

Umm that aths track looks spot on. He has the athletes running the wrong way. Lol

They are running into the 100m shute.
Tracks run anti clockwise, the finish line is always before the bend starts and you never run towards those line markings which show 2 different ways.
Artist obviously not a sports person.

What are you on about?

I am advocating a portion of the ground being off-limits to West Coast members.

Mmmm. you said

Ok, my bad, seems otherwise by your post. but I'm still not sure what you mean?

Have you spoken out about Geelong? Essendon at Docklands? Anzac Day?

I agree that booked out stadiums are a problem for the game but it's a problem nationally NOW.

WA needs the new facility to draw tourists & it can do it on the back of our game IF visiting team members/fans are catered for - it strengthens the WAFC claims to manage the stadium.

If only a few more WCE & Dockers supporters thought this way.

It really seems that, the so many want it to be big enough for their clubs members & no more.
Which is such a pathetic way of thinking.

I go to Tassie with a group of friends from Melb. to watch a game most years.Between us we'd spend (conservative)approx. $20,000 over 3 nights.
We've gone to games in Adelaide.
They suggested coming here but i told them there's no point, as it would be so hard to get a ticket for everyone.

60k members in a 60k seater is really no different to the 40k in 40k we have now.

If we paid $800m for the new stadium then that would be fine, but it's a public asset that we aren't funding.
