The MCG is surrounded by a park and its nicer than Etihad being surrounded by multi story buildings.Really not a fan of how it's surrounded by parklands, I guess that was the "aboriginal" theme they had to tie in there somewhere because it'll have native plants or some shit?
I think as long as the amenities and viewing angles are better nobody will really complain too much though. The design is a little boring but if it ends up looking like Allianz Arena we'll be golden.
Plus it looks like one side will be surrounded by car parking, the train station and the freeway. The other side is surrounded by the parklands and walk way to the footbridge across the river. So it will depend where you live and how you'll get to the stadium whether you end up in the park or not. It's not like you have to hike in through kilometers of park before you stumble across the stadium!
If your concern is lack of food, drink or night spots in the surrounding area that's probably reasonable but (aside from in the stadium itself) I guess it's wait and see if the surrounding areas like East Perth with the new footbridge end up serving the purpose. 60k people regularly leaving the area at opportune times for food and drink, I think the free market will take care of itself.
