Sadly, I'm yet to play either. I was going to hire FIFA 08 for ps2 but not really that keen actually, I'd rather have a whirl on the Ps3. I will be playing PES08 on Friday though.

I havnt played PES2008 yet but FIFA08 is pretty good but the gameplay is really slow!
but the graphics and everything are awesome.

i have always preferred Fifa on the basis of licensing and friends having it. I bought Fifa 08 a few weeks ago but thought it was A) basically identical to 2007 in most visual and operational aspects and B) The game for some reason has become really fluky and i guesas i was just sick of being disappointed so thought i would ditch it and wait for PS# version when i get one.
So i got PES last week and i can't belive how much better it is. It is just so... real. The ball bobbles and is harder to control but can be used to great effect. Game play is more realistic, more varied.
It bugs me that there are not licenses but not the end of the world.

I want to patch it but understand you need a Max Drive - what the hell is this? anyone done it?

Otherwise pretty bloody good.

It depends on what you want really....

PES has ALWAYS had better gameplay....

FIFA had always had better graphics... And more stuff


I prefer good gameplay to good graphics myself....

I just got a ps3 today and I've heard very mixed reviews about the new PES, I am a HUGE PES fan so it did disappoint me a bit but I will wait until tomorrow (hopefully) to make my own decision.

Ive played it quite a bit on the 360 but I dont know about the ps3... Yes the ps3 version is a lot buggier apparently, but on the 360 as a normal PES game it does not look any where near as good as FIFA, but I really don't care about graphics... PES wins on pure fun factor.... It controls better, has better player creation/management and a good manager system... Highly enjoyable. The new engine is dynamic and great and creates a much more unpredictable (Good in this case) set of scenarios... I was at a corner kick, I kicked it in, the opposition player tried to clear it but it bounced off my knee and the goalie fell over himself diving to save it...

I dunno if I will get the ps3 version BUT I normally dont listen to reviews and play games myself, return them to EB if they arent any good...

That's exactly why I prefer PES over FIFA.. every goal is different.

Last Friday I was watching some highlights on fox with a mate, then we played PES and similar things happened, it was odd but awesome. That was PES 6 on ps2.

I'm not voting until I get PES 2008 but apparently the next gen versions aren't amazing. I've still not been able to determine whether the PC version is more like the 360 and PS3 versions or like the old PS2 version. If it's like the PS2 version, most likely making it just a clone of the previous version, then I probably will save my money.

Strangely enough PES08 on the ps2 got a higher rating than the next-gen console versions on gamespot.com.

With the addition of the A-League and improved gameplay I think FIFA08 takes it out this year.

Yep, agree with all you've said

Instead of patching it, why not get an option file instead? (assuming you have a chipped ps2)... PM me if you want some good websites with awesome option files

I bought PES08 today for PS3 and it is a extremely enjoyable game, I love PES.
I haven't played FIFA at this stage but I want to play that, mainly for their manager mode and the A-League!

So Rooster, it isn't as bad as some have said??? I normally don't put any weight in reviews, but it did sound buggy. Its all fun?

I haven't noticed a bug but I haven't played a stack of games, I've noticed the keepers do some 'different' things but they are realistic which is great.
I was a bit worried about the bad reviews but I knew I would still enjoy it and it is an awesome game.
My mate, who I played PES 6 with a hell of a lot, also got it today and played it before me and he was stoked with it so he is also someone who rates it highly. A few drinks and games tomorrow night should be on the cards.

If the reviews are what's stopping you from getting the game then ignore them, if you are a PES fan you will love the new one.

I bought PES 2008 the other day (for xbox 360) and I am loving it. Previously I had both 4 and 5 on xbox and this one just blows them out of the water.

Not a huge improvement on graphics (though they are improved) just the gameplay is awesome. Im playing a Master League with Spurs (who to my great surprise are licenced) and taking Lennon on a mazy run from his own half to finish off with a thunderbolt outside the box was the best feeling. Even better I have Berbatov, Bent scoring goals regularly (wish it would happen in the real season).

I havent played FIFA 08 on 360 yet though I am keen to try. I really want to play the mode where you control one player, can anyone tell me if you can do a career with this or even a season? Or is it just exhibition games?
