What the hell is wrong with the West Coast Eagles. He is a legend of the club and is coming off a pretty good year which also saw him play a lot of games too. So why is no deal coming forth??

I see no reason for the club to want him to retire. He was probably our second best defender all year behind Collica, stayed relatively injury free and is a leader of the club.

For god sake WC ... sign him!

Matera isn't being signed yet because the final decision will be left to the new coach. He is 32 years old, and he might not be in a coaches plans.

Also, there has been speculation that Woosha would not be too comfortable coaching his old team-mates, so maybe thats why they are leaving that decision to him.

But I think more realistically its because Matera's manager wants a bigger contract, while the eagles are offering him something a lot smaller then expected. So negotiations have stalled.

But not to worry, I'm sure he won't be pushed into retirement.....I hope.

Matera's manager - is he the same one who tried to hold us to ransom last time?

I think Peter Matera should be given a one year contract - bearing in mind that he's on the Veteran's List, so effectively he comes half price. Surely he must have enough money now to be able to reach a satisfactory agreement for both parties? And whoever the new coach is, I'm sure he'd be happy to have Peter Matera on the list - it's not like you can just go out and buy that experience.

I suspect the Eagles are offerring a 'pay per game' contract to him rather than a fixed salary. Giving his injury history I think that would be fair but clearly to him and his manager they would realise that if he only played half the games he would only get half the salary.
I believe a 'pay per game' contact is what Scotty needs too. That way he has to put in or get dropped and lose money.
