If Knights sticks to his guns and only fit players are selected then all players fit and in form will get opportunities. Pev and JJ will be required regardless of if they are considered best 22 or depth players. Best 22 will change each week when you add the word fit.

IMO JJ wasn't at all that bad last year. He struggled early and then found form as the season went on eventually playing to his potential in a few of our later games.

I think that Knights will have to go with one of them at least, JJ seems the obvious choice because he's had more experience and can teach the younger brigade a thing or two.
It's times like these that you almost regret trading Solly becuase he would've probably got a spot in the midfield this year just for his attack on the ball.
Pev will have to really impress in the Pre-Season because i can't see him consistently in our best 22.

this is a tough because considering we have a lot of talent both guys wont be playing that many games i think pev will play more than jj because he is tougher [phsically] but both mite get 8+games just so knights can blood most of the youngsters

Contrary to a lot of posters on here i don't see many kids being able to step up and play the majority of the season in the midfield.

Many mention names like Hislop, Houli, Jetta and Dempsey
I don't believe these guys will play very much midfield.
They certainly are no where near ready being able to step straight in and away they go.

I think Pev and JJ will both play a lot of midfield next year but will probably rotate through the bench.

JJ has been written off too early and while his pace is an issue, he can do what a lot of our young potential mids can't, crash packs and win contested ball.

I think with a good run with injuries JJ might have a good year with a bit of help and more bench time.

Monfries is one of the young mids that at least has a good chance to step up and play a fair amount of time in the midfield, if his form warrants it.

While the younger guys will get their chances and will probably play a bit of time in there, they are just not ready to play 22 rounds in the midfield.

Ripper, another year of stagnation playing blokes who are in todays game b and c graders in place of developing potential A grade kids. That would be a fantastic result.

Potential A grade kids that aren't made to earn a game and play before they are ready turn into c graders.

Not sure if there's a spot for JJ or Pev in the side next year.

If McVeigh plays in the middle then I'd be happy for him and Watson to be the bigger bodies with Stanton, Winderlich, Lovett, Monfries, Dempsey, Slattery adding support.

The kids in Hislop, Houli, Reimers, Lonergan, etc should be given plenty of game time coming off the bench.

I can only see one of JJ or Pev playing if Jobe, Monfries or Slattery are off their game or there's a few injuries.

Monfries could be the guy that makes way for JJ. I can't see him playing forward as Knights has indicated Mcphee will probably play there and we have Davey and Jetta plus Welsh so if JJ can get his body right and play decent footy he might get a few games.

Will be very interesting to see what Knights does with em though.

I think that's a bit of a stretch. My point is it would be a waste of a season if we continue with JJ, Pev, Welsh, etc as these guys have been the heart of our poor side over recent years. It's time to turn things around and we have kids good enough to do jobs.

JJ and Pev will both be fighting for spots with McVeigh and Watson as the mature midfielders. Watson and McVeigh are ahead. I think if you played all 4 it would be a huge mistake and by the sounds of Knights talk, I don't think he'll do it.

Welsh does his job and plays a different role to JJ, Pev and McVeigh.

McVeigh plays a different role to Pev and JJ and he isn't slow.
He also plays forward.

But hey, lets throw the kids to the wolves and forget about the importance of leadership.

It's a huge mistake if we throw kids in the middle and let them get smashed.

Pev shouldn't be in our side, he doesn't have the skills, but JJ does and so does Welsh.

Those two makes others stand taller and if you haven't noticed, we don't have a lot of blokes who have the ability to fly the flag when the going gets tough.

Look at what Mal and Fletch have done for Ryder, that doesn't happen just because of luck. That happens because Ryder has the confidence of knowing he has senior players around him. We don't have any of those in the midfield without JJ now that Hird has gone.

Welsh doesn't have the skills. His skills are embarrasing.

What did Hawthorn do with their kids. Put them in. Gave them games and now they are a quality side because of it. I don't think our kids are any worse than theirs.

I believe that Welsh has the skills and yes at times his disposal can be a little off at times but he's one of our most consistent players week in and week out. That's not embarrasing.

They still didn't throw them all in the deep at once to see what happened.

They bring them in when ready, they have veterans like Crawf, Mitchell ect to guide them so they can play with confidence.

One exception may be Zach Dawson and we've seen how that's turned out.

That's crap.

They rotated their kids through.

Mitchell went into their midfield as a 20-21 year old.
They had Crawford and Vandenberg providing leadership and bigger bodies.

Bateman was 23-24 before he got a really good crack at it.
Ladson and Sewell 21.

Before that, those kids were getting 6-10 games in their first couple of years.
Blokes like Lewis and Franklin being the obvious exceptions, but we have them too.

Our kids have all had games, but they need leaders and they need to earn games. JJ gives us that, providing his fitness and form warrants selection.

That's your opinion........ but Wooshers' skills aren't that bad compared to a few others. Not naming any names of course. :D
