Thanks to yellowandback off OER, this is what the former Tigers had to say on the Marngrook Footy Show last night.

He echoes everything I've been trying to say.

*Blames match committee/coach for playing Tambling after the week off with a hammy and the birth of his kid on the Thursday night before the bulldogs game

*Claimed that the coach singled out Tambo as playing a poor game but refused to single out older, senior players "Who have not laid a tackle in 2 years"

*Stated that JON spoke to him tonight and said he WASN'T playing on Sunday

*Reckons that the young players are taking the rap for poor performance of the team instead of the senior players - Nathan Brown was singled out as an example of not delivering but still being in the side

*When one of the others mentioned that Jordy "who has your number Phil" was back in the side, Egan looked down and shook his head (and looked disgusted)

*Blamed the coaching staff for showing no respect to the playing group by forcing them to play a style of game they have no hope of executing on field

Good post - damn, wish I could get that show.

Apparently the show doesnt try and be funny like the dicks on footy show and its good value.

Did he talk about the old times at all? any stories.

Admittedly Egan didnt play in many successful sides but he was a good player.

I remember his first game in 1982 kicking the ball the wrong way.

Phil Egan he always gave 100 per cent even though he wasn't that talented.

Why has tambling been dropped if they said it was because of the birth of his baby. The coaches and the selectors should be dropped to the reserves for this week.

What style of game plan are they capabale of executing?

Also, with one of my more disliked players returning from injury to the 2's in Pettifer, one way he may be of use is to play him as a backman. It would be a real test of his charachter. At least he is a good kick, can take a grab for his height and probably punch (just not sure if he will put his body on the line). I think it would be a good learning stream for him as well.

The op sums up what Egan said pretty well. He is Tamblings mentor and was pretty pissed off with how Tambling was dealt with by supprters and the club and reckoned he'd been made a scapegoat out of.

On the gameplan, he reckoned it was too complicated for the players. I'm inclined to agree. To many teams have adopted zoning this season and it really highlights skill errors. Although we've copped it the most in the media I've seen a few games involving other teams where the skills have also looked pretty bad. The problem with the zoning style is that it requires pin-point precision.

The game has passed him by,time to retire.

I should add brown to the capuano stakes. Has lost his spring and makes dumb errors now. More interested in his life post football and is merely just collecting an easy few hundred grand for no output right now.

Our senior group has been rotten for years and unfortunately it filters through to the kids.

They are like Doctors and Lawyers...never bagging those in the fraternity!

(2) Phil Egan wasn't much of a player himself....FFS

Wouldn't rate the words of Egan on average players...when he was one!

Week by Week I'm starting to think Wallace is loseing the ship bigtime, he is starting to lose the players and there cofidence.

Yep. Spot on comment. Whatever it is going on behind the scenes, it is now surfacing on game day.

Bitterly disappointed with the 1st three games, not so much about the losses but how they lost.

The next month will show us what Wallace really has...if its substance something can be made of the season, if smoke and mirrors it is going to be a long season with the prospect of 2/3 coaches in 12 months.

Not sure if I want Wallace to succeed anymore.

Marngrook totally pants Channel 9's so called Footy Show. Marngrook is quality. It's a bit rough around the edges and some of the guys aren't the best footy analysts but they say it like they see it and they actually talk and care about footy. No glitz, no glam just footy.

Phil Egan is a quality analyst and whenever i have seen him on the show i have been impressed. I think he is now a permanent fixture whereas previously he was a guest.

Like what he says (covered in the OP) and reckon we could do with some of that common sense down at the club.

Richard Tambling being dropped is just another case of our football departments reactionary nature. He shouldn't have been picked last week however he also should be given a chance to prove his metle this week.

Egan is very very right when he highlights the senior players. If they don't get it right over the next 4 weeks then they have had their time. Now is too early to Capuano/Gaspar blokes as we can still make finals. Once finals are out then there should be an out and out youth policy for the rest of the year. No point going on with 30 plus year olds if you can't give the tree a shake.

starting to think? dude, mark my words the moment they are rid of him and a new coach is at the helm you will see a distinct change on their attack on the ball. The players have been sending a message for quite a while. Round 1 was them putting the message up in neon lights. The game plan sucks, we cant play it, we are sick and tired of having to play it and enough is enough, get rif of this dude. Forget about the shit that is fed to the media, no one is going to come out and say, we dont back our coach. Forever and a day, thorughout history, the next sacked coach, was always backed by the playing group.
For me, and this is one out of left field, the form of Nathan Brown, where it is quite visible that all he is doing is trying to justify his pay packet, rather than playing for the jumper, goes hand in hand with what is about to unfold in regards to TW. Out of left field tip, he will fade into retirement in unison with TW's exit. And i have been a fan of Brownies, dont get me wrong, but he is just treading water ATM. As for Richo, he should shut the **** up when telling the supporters what to do. Richo, they pay good dollars to watch the shit that is dished up by the team. THey have endured so much shit over the stretch, and they have every ****ing right to demand change. And if you can tell anyone that sits in those stands that things have changed, then you are purely bull shitting all of us. And lets not go the the ****ing charade of the "premium membership" package that guarantees you a GF seat when the tigers make it hey? Like WTF were they ****ing thinking? Or were they just making hay while the spin doctor kept the sun shining with his spin? ;)

Guys like JON/Hughes/Reiwoldt should of been played far more often to give them confidence (Ala Roughy and Buddy at Hawthorn) Take the pain from the 1st few years by playing the young players would be now paying dividends.

Nothing would give a KPP a confidence boost like the coach saying "Right, you'll play the next 8 (Or however many) games, show us what you can do"

Yeah the footy show is alot of money thrown around lack of talent.

If Egan is mentoring Tambling then he will be biased.

Im not sure I would want a mentor telling him that he was a scapegoat and unfairly treated. But he is right about senior players. I hope Joel Bowden has been told where he is at. BTW Brownies article did nothing for me. He bounced back the next week but thats all those things achieve. They dont sustain anything long term.

I recall Phil Egan's career very well. It was marked with inconsistency and pretty much paralleled our tailspin from 1982 Grand Finalists to 1987 Wooden Spooners. A guy who looked a million dollars but rarely delivered. Maybe he offers more as a mentor in his 40's or as a quiet analyst? But defending Tambling on last week's effort? That performance was indefensible. Tambling needs to take total responsibility for that.

X 1000

exactly - indigenous players are a protected spieces on that show.

take anything said about then with a grain of salt.

egan should STFU - connected to the club and comes out twith this garbage. Problem is he can't be censored by anyone at the club because that is not PC.

Absolute Bullkak

100% right about the first point. IF the guy hadn't slept, what was he doing in the side?? Then to use it as an excuse, was a disgrace

A little bit of the old brotherhood creeping in wiht the second comment. Tambling was well and truly overdue to be dropped. Hasn't been trying hard enough for ages and it shouldn't have been based on jsut one game. he has been a disgrace for 70 odd games. My mail is footy just isn't that important to him and boy, does it show. HAs to be traded. Has to be.

He was right about JON.

King's file should be marked...never,ever,ever again.

When will they learn?

100% agree, Ive been patient with RT up until now, time to make him really EARN a game...3-4 BOGs in vfl before we consider a return, both his and edwards performance were that far short of the standard it was embarrassing...If JON continues to perform in VFL he needs to get a chance , FFS don't tell me there is no room

Wallace has never been very good with a big group of young players. In his last 2 seasons at the doggies, he upset most of the young players a lot due to either not giving them the correct opportunity or not giving them the correct time of day at training. This was way Rhode was given the job after Wallace screwed them over - because the young players went to the club and requested he came in. Rhode almost exclusively trained and handled the young players where as wallace had nothing to do with them.

All Wallaces major success came based on being able to handle mature age players who were already at the club when he arrived i.e Grant, Ellis, Libba, Romero, Dimma, Croft, Kretiuk, Cook, West etc

Nathan Brown was really one of the rare exceptions on young players who got along with Terry - the great list of youth players he developed was not on his work but the recruiters (thats why their recruiting since he left has also been excellent)

In hindsight Terry was not the correct coach for us - and a 5 year contract was not the right way to keep someone like him in control
