Philapousis over-powers Blanco.

It was from the very beginning, a match that Philapousis had anticipated to win. The Scud started the game firing, controlling points, and not giving Blanco any easy points. With all guns blazing, Philapousis took the opening set 6-3. The second set was pretty much the same story with Philapousis continuing to do what he done so well in the first set. Blanco started to get his game going, but Philapousis remained strong winning the second set 6-4. The third set was a different story. Blanco came to play, and matched Philapousis. In the 6th game of the 3rd set, Blanco had the chance to break Philapousis being up 15-40. But he couldn’t capitalize, with the Scud taking the set and the match 7-5 in the third. Also from the Philapousis racquet, 29 aces were bulleted of it.

2nd set - Phil 28 - 21 Blan
3rd set - Phil 52 - 44 Blan

Total points won - Phil 110 - 84 Blan

Phillipoussis was too good. Blanco played OK, but wasnt able to handle his strong serving.


Does anyone know how much the tickets are for the Aus open? Might go down tomorrow and have a peak at Anna K.

Yeah the Scud is playing really well and is certainly a darkhorse in the tournament in my opinion. Hingis also took care of Razzo 6-2 6-2.

That was the best I can remember Phillipoussis serving for a long time. Blanco had no answer and really never had a look in on the serve of the Scud.

Congrats to Flip for his win last night. He played excellent tennis through the second set and early in the last. He dropped off a little after that but that is to be expected, considering it was his first best of five set match for 18 months. Plus we don't want him paying at his peak just yet.

A huge thumbs up for the way he stayed after the match signing autographs though. I think virtually everyone who wanted an autograph got one and it certainly points toward a happier and keener Flip. Let's hope he can build some confidence and reverse his recent result against Henman.

Agreed, great of him to sign so many autographs. Trying to get back onside with the public I thought but good on him. When he is firing, he will be very hard to beat. He just has so much power.

Loved it when Blanco handed the racquet to the linesman and expected him to take the serve while he sat down for a rest. Funny stuff.

Also Phil. shot around the net, between the ball girl and the net............awesome stuff!!!

Mark has always been like that with signing autographs. He has always stayed out and signed quite a few.
But I will admit I have never seen a tennis player do it for that long. Its great to see him doing that, and I hope he continues it.

Back to the tennis, and that was the best game I have seen him play for some time, and I can only see him getting better.

His serve was on track. I have never seen him serve quite so well. Only 3 double faults for the entire match. For mark that is great. When you think about that, you think that he only got those 3 doubles in the one game, when a lack of concentration got the better of him.

If he can play like that (and improve) then he will win the aus open, as I predicted in the other thread

How long will it take little Lleyton to blame the loss on the chicken pox? Or coaching disruptions? Or the lack of time he has to prepare between the mens and womens matches he has to play? Poooooooooooooor Lleyton.

Interesting to see that Mark lost 10 kilos in recent times and it improved his mobility but didn't take away from his strength. He looked a little frail though in the interview or at least a little gaunt. He has also declared that he will win Wimbledon this year. Let's hope so.
