It is my sad duty to inform you that a short time ago Phillip Hughes passed away.

He never regained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday.

He was not in pain before he passed and was surrounded by his family and close friends.

As a cricket community we mourn his loss and extend our deepest sympathies to Phillip’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.

Cricket Australia kindly asks that the privacy of the Hughes family, players and staff be respected.

Sorry that this is off topic but thought it deserved a thread, mods can move it if they wish

Truly horrific news, thoughts to Hughes family friends and Sean Abbott

RIP Hughes, one of the best young sportsmen in Australia and fantastic bloke

RIP Phillip Hughes - Absolute tragedy and no one should be taken from this life for playing their favorite sport whether it be cricket, football, horse racing or whatever.

Won't pretend to know him but from what i've read these last couple of days he was a mates mate - thoughts are with family, friends, team mates and the cricketing world.

The guy who balled the bowl must also be doing it really tough and would absolutely feel terrible. Let's hope he can deal with this tragic accident and continue playing first grade cricket.

He will never play Cricket Again
He'll be doing it tough but I'm sure with the support of Phil Hughes family, friends and the cricketing world he'll return to playing cricket. I hope so as that's what Phil Hughes would also want.

Terrible for him also but purely an accident.

Sort of the same position as train drivers who through no fault of their own hit someone :S

Wow. I'm actually genuinely upset by this and I didn't even know the guy.

R.I.P Phil and condolences to your family, friends and also not forgetting how Sean Abbott must be feeling right now, I hope he pulls through this and comes out the other side strongly.

Terrible news.

Tragic news, he was still just a kid. I had the pleasure of chatting to him a couple of years ago, still remember it clearly, such a warm and engaging personality. He exemplified all that is good about Australian values.

Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and also with Abbott.
