Can anyone recommend good photo and video editing software? What are the best spots to purchase in Melbourne?

I'm looking at touching up a few of my own photos, using photos to create shows, create own videos etc for fun.

Cheers :)

Photo Editing.
GIMP.
It is FREE. http://www.gimp.org/ It is just as good if not better than Photoshop. And did I mention its free?

Video Editing.
If you are not a professional and don't need to get really heavy with it then use Kino http://www.kinodv.org/
It is also FREE. And works really well.

If you are professional or need to do some professional level editing then you cant go past CINELERRA. However this program only runs in Linux. It is FREE (As is Linux).

IMO Can't go past the Adobe suite, plus available on both PC and Mac.

After Effects for compositing and Premiere for editing, with Photoshop for image manipulation.

A bit pricey but they have trial versions of CS4 at adobe.com

GIMP is a great freeware photo editor, if you just want touch ups like red eye etc, you can't go past Picasa 3, it'll organise it all for you too and you can make some nice collages/photo movies.

The bundled Windows Movie Maker is pretty average, you might want to look at Adobe Premier Elements, it's a more base level package and as such, cheaper however unless you're doing serious, industry/hardcore editing, it'll do your videos justice.
