We all know that the Swans need to win at least 3 out of the 4 remaining games. I was just wondering does anyone else think it would be a good idea to make the Swans a more physical side, more willing to tackle opposition players really hard and essentially phyisically intimidate the opposition. I think Paul Roos should let Barry Hall off his leash and go out there and scare the shit out of the other teams defence. We have the players to play really tough football with Barry Hall, Spida Everitt and Adam Goodes all physically harassing the other team. Physical intimidation is a valid tactic and i think the Swans should employ it more. What do you guys think?

Totally agree. It worked a treat for Freo yesterday.

Despite what the umpires think, the Swans are one of the most disciplined sides in footy. I'd hate to see that change. And we're already pretty damn physical. We're one of the hardest tackling, close marking sides in the recent history of the game.

Throwing tanties and smacking blokes might be fun to watch (and it is :D) but that stuff usually happens because players aren't doing to real tough stuff like running hard, covering for their team mates and putting their bodies over the ball.

Playing a harder style of football does not mean you become less disciplined especially if you do it well. I think people are underestimating how much of a help it would be if our big players started physically intimidating the oppsition. We all know that Barry Hall, Spida Everitt and Adam Goodes are capable of playing a harder style of football and it will be nice to see. If you were a defender wouldnt you think twice about attacking the ball if you knew Barry Hall was tackling players really really hard. Scaring the opposition defence would work well in my opinion and if anyone can scare them its Barry Hall.

And there's the rub, and the reason we don't play the physical card like occasionally we should. We get a tough enough run as it is, going the belt would only make it worse.

exactly what i'd have said....barry hall, being the obvious physical presence, cops a bad enough run with umpires as it is, imagine if he stopped being the restrained player he is, physically? he'd be reported in the first quarter of his first game back as big Bad Bustling, and get 4 weeks at the tribunal, which would please only the idiots and swans/hall haters who still whinge about him being cleared for the 05 GF....and on that, i still can't understand why no one mentioned (or mentions) that, as a trained boxer, if baz had really wanted to punch maguire, he'd have left the saints player needing to be stretchered off

Exactly, if there was any force behind that punch then Matt Maguire wouldn't have moved for the rest of the night.

i'd just like to go on with this for a moment coz i sit and work among vics and vic team supporters, and many of them sainters, and they STILL go on about this, with suggestions the afl tribunal freed him so sydney got their flag and the afl got a romantic season finale....the fact is, and you can see on the video, that hall pulled the punch...he might have set out with the wrong intention but he quite clearly pulled the punch and it ended up more a fend than anything else....maguire played it up, and robert walls got it right in the commentary on the night....maguire dogged it, stayed down and sydney got a goal, and that's more discredit to maguire than anything else....i previously liked maguire, but that tv shot of him halfway through the last quarter, having been benched and sitting alone in the stands crying, was so much what he deserved, and a sweet memory for everyone swans fan still craving the credit for our side that never truly came after the flag triumph
