I'm doing the season preview thingo for Lockyer... and I have to choose our best 22. I've got 20 of that 22, but really really undecided as to who should fill the last 2 spots.

So everyone pick 2 (and only 2) players from the list.

Cheers

Dodd: Mobile third tall. We really have a lot of these players, the only way i can see him getting a game is if Mcpharlin and Polak play forward.
Cook: add much needed hardness to the midfield, i think he has fallen out of favour with the coaching staff
Murphy: The best of our rookies last year, A long way off being a good player AFL player, If polly doesn't play FF might be worth trying to develop murphy at AFL level.
Mcmanus: Same category of Cook he would be a oustanding WAFL player, his best chance at getti a game migh be playing in the backline
Schofield: (Attacking midfielder) Has good skills, however does't make good decisions under pressure, tend to just bomb long.
Woods: May be a spot in the team for him
Grover: I would pick him as the mobile third tall
Browne: (attacking midfield role)will need to improve on last year, i would pick schofield a head of him, however schofield only has a couple of years left, this may come back to bite us in the long run
Siegert: defnsive midfield role) Similar sort of player to webster
Dunn: (defensive midfield role) hasn't shown much, mainly because of injury. On last seasons form i would go for someone like Cook or Mcmanus over Dunn, similar to browne
Smith: Adds depth to the midfield will need a couple injuries to force his way into the team
Gilmore: depends on who else is in the team. i thought he was good early last season, but mustn't have played the role that the coaches wanted him to play

i would pick Murphy and Cook but depends on who the other 20 players are and what positions they are playing
to be continued....

You stated its the BEST 22. At this stage it rules out most of them because they have only played a few games eg Murphy, Dunn, Dodd and are yet to play their best.
It depends on the position that are available but would be two of Cook, Grover, Woods, McManus and Seigert. Probably Cook and Woods at this stage?

Murphy has got to be there. Should be a good player.

I actually picked Browne as well. Good things seem to happen for Freo when he's on field.

Macca and Cook are about right to be replaced IMO.

I already did it Kenny, complete with player descriptions.

Did you PM him? He might have got us both to do it by mistake..

Schofield - He played well for the first part of the year, but really tapered away at the end. I would have him on a half forward flank and rotating through the midfield, as he is a pretty decent finisher.

Cook - Cookie still adds hardness to the team, however as we found out at times last year, he is not a tagging back man. He needs to either be played off the bench for impact, or the HFF.

Murphy - There is only so much development he can do in the WAFL against "Trent Carroll" type defenders. He needs to be given some game time to develop, in the position we are really lacking in.

Grover - Hard, Quick, Long kick, but he sometimes lacks the commitment of other players.

McManus - With Carr, Black and Schofield coming into the team, Macca will struggle to play in the midfield. However he is creative in the forward line, and could have a place on the HFF (with everyone else).

Dodd - Developing nicely, but will only be given the chance when injuries arise.

Woods - Had a very poor 2004, he has the skills, but looked like he lacked the commitment to become a permanent fixture in the 2004 side. He needs to improve his intensity.

Dunn - He didn't really show anything in the WAFL due to injury. For now he needs to get some experience with senior footy in the WAFL before selection.

Gilmore - Gilly didn't do much wrong this year, his position is one of team balance. Connolly needs to figure out whether he is going to play him in the backline or off a wing. I'm doubtful whether you could have Thornton, Woods, Grover and Gilly in the same side, As the former players would be ahead of him, he will find it tough to break into the side this year.

Browne - He was mainly used across the HFF. While his commitment to the team 1-percenters is second to none, you cant have a forward line player who is scared to take a set shot for goal. He needs to get his head right when taking set shots in order to take his place in the team.

Smith - Was good when he came in, but we have alot of small bodies in the midfield already. A good backup player.
Siegert - Our third rate tagger behind the Carr brothers. A good backup in case of injury / suspension.
