Hypothetically, If you could pick a player from another club to go to the lions, who would it be?

At this stage i'm going with Kane Cornes because of his amazing ability to shut down quality midfielders and rack up a ton of dissposals.

I'll be the first to say it after todays game (and I probably would have said it before the game as well)

BUDDY FRANKLIN

AKA, 2001-2003 Model.
Stuff that. If we're going to be naming past models, i wouldnt' do past the Voss. Michael that is.

Makes your AKA look like a Hyundai does to a Hummer.

Of young players, I like the look of G.Ablett jnr. Reckon he may have a future. Also J.Selwood. Older players, of course Pavlich, Judd, Reiwoldt.

Ablett is the same age as Judd, they were both drafted in the 2001 draft and I reckon you might be on the money about him having a future haha and quite a good one at that I'd imagine.

In this hypothetical, you'd want the player to be around for at least 2 and preferably 3 sustained (ie 2-3 seasons) tilts at a flag. I'd put a tentative ceiling of 24 years old for selections which would include the 2001 superdraft players but doesn't favour guys like Pavlich, C. Cornes and Goodes. But you'd be reluctant to choose a player who is too young - eg, Joel Selwood has been great this year but might remain just a very good player without elevating himself to champion level.

I think you'd also have to favour key position forwards firstly as the most highly valued players in the comp. But our forwards are so strong that you'd only be looking at geniune superstars or really promising young guys. Next would be "unique" midfielders - ie players who can play inside or out, really skilful tough nuts or midfielders who can go forward and regularly kick goals. My list is weighted towards midfielders because that is our weakness. Dominant rucks would also be considered and someone like Hamish McIntosh would be top 5 for most clubs IMO but our rucks are so strong. An attacking CHB would be high on the agenda and if I was looking for an immediate premiership, Chad Cornes would be very close to #1.

Finally, as a lesser focus, you'd hope for someone with a reasonably good injury and suspension record as you need to be fairly sure of getting close to 22 games a season from the chosen one.

On the basis of the above, I would select the following players in order:

1. Judd - When you talk about "unique" midfielders, I think Judd has it all. As his midfield capacity drops, he will also be a good leading forward in the (fit) Buckley style, which our midfield seems less capable of.

2. Franklin - At 20yo, he is going to be able to spearhead 3 sustained premiership campaigns - now, when he is about 26-27 and when he is in his early 30s. Could almost be the most valuable player in the AFL for that reason. Would also suit our current forward line.

3. Kerr - Quick, hard and skilful players are rare. Would add a different dimension to our side for a long time.

4. Riewoldt - The best credentialled key forward under 25.

5. Deledio - I put him in here ahead of a couple of others who have more runs on the board because of his age (20yo) and the fact that he is the closest to Judd in terms of the unique package of size, speed and skill.

6. G. Ablett - As the best mid/forward in the comp.

7. Hodge - I like the combination of hardness and skill. His long, accurate kicking will mean that he can still dominate across half back when his midfield days are over.

8. T. Cloke - Ahead of most of his contemporary KP forwards in terms of development.

9. Cooney - The "X factor" that could turn a workmanlike midfield into premiership quality. In here on potential more than performance.

10. McLean - Hard at it, skilful and only 21.
