Pies 2005 Player List Preview

Luv ya work Lockyer24, the only gripe I have is 2005 being a make or brake for Williams. It's broken, and I don't want to see his limp wristed sorry ass in the senior side this year.

with davidson though, what if he gets and stays fit early on in the season, what are reasonable expectations to have of him this year?

10 games, mainly in the second half of the season, played sparingly off the bench, is the most you can ask of him in 2005.

Walker is Crap? C'mon! He's a good athlete without much football nouse. He's got 2 years to get better. The payoff will be big if he does. Meanwhile he needs a few scattered senior games to promote his development. At least what there is to work with is good. As it stands not he hasn't really played a single good game yet. Were he not such a good athlete for footy purposes he wouldn’t have been given a game as yet and he would be seen as a project with a bit more work required before assessment. I’ll gurantee you he would have got a bigger trade price than McGough who actually can play the game and get the ball. He’d probably get a better price than Scotland did. Athletic talls are hard to find and many of them can’t play footy. Give Walker another year or two. Of he can’t make the grade by then then he has to go but until then he’s a cheap gamble with a potential big payoff.

Kouta's an athletic tall who took time to learn the game
So was Jim Stynes
So is Trent Croad, who finally showed consistency in 2004 after years of being bagged.

Give Tex a break.

I read today "Collingwood star Anthony Rocca says it is time for some of the
Magpies' younger players to "step up" if the Pies are to put the memory
of last year's disastrous slide to 13th behind them."

I would have thought it was time for the senior players to start doing
what they're paid for. I read with interest in the paper this morning
that Chris Tarrant averages less than two goals per game. I therefore
feel vindicated in suggesting that he should have been traded (along
with Rocaa) at the end of last season.

Tarrant needs to play HFF up to the wing. He should not be allowed close to goal because his kicking is atrocious. Rocca is a champion but a very sh1t-truck version of a champion and has probably not played more than 25 good games in his life. The rest he is either injured or just ineffective.

They should have a look at BJ - hardly a speck of talent yet now quite a good player.

Lonie to wing
Johnson to midfield
Fraser forward
Bucks on ball

Less injuries please.

& a few of those 10th to 25th best players to seriously step up.
(1st year players don't drag you into finals)

A team that has little reason not to make the 8.

Great effort L24

I've read Season 2005, Inside Football, Herald Sun Season Preview etc etc and that is the best read I've had on the Pies. Great job.

The message I get tho is that 30 odd don't go into 22. Some will get there chance and take it others won't. Will it be Didak, Rowe and Lonie who step up to the plate, or will it be Walker, Davis, Williams and Rhyce or perhaps Cloke, Cloke & Cloke. The point is hopefully it will be some, but can't be all.

I can see down the track that will we lose a few more McGough's and Scotland's as we just can't give them all the games they deserve. What a strong position to be in. Depth. It will be interesting to see if StK hold on to Hamill, Riewoldt, Goddard, Ball, Clarke, Hayes, Kochitzke all stars, but let's look at their 25, 26, 27 listed players. Would rather our list.

IMO, i expect a big year from Dids, Neon and Obes. I hope Caracella is playing well enough to hold a forward spot because that means he will be kicking goals, Morro will bring strength and composure to our side and Richards will play Ruck more than 50% of the time releasing Fraser.

I haven't even mentioned Coley, the Shaws, Tex, the talented spine, Davo, Johhno, Lica etc etc. It's shaping up as a good year if things go well, if we have a good run with injuries and we are swiitched on (Mick's job). Top 4 and a serious threat.

PS Form/development below par & we cop injuries then wooden spoon with 5 wins. Oh the Homer drool.

You idiot.

the ruck situation fraser looks a lot stronger this year and should be the number 1 ruckman and than resting on a hff. if his form is not good than they should use richards and try fraser on a wing it would be hard to find a match up for him. didak should be used on the wing or on ball where last year he kicked 4 goals and had 25 possesions playing there.people think richards should be the ruckman fraser is easily better then him he has got better pace and agilty any thoughts

Around the ground Fraser doesn't have many equals, but I think your underating Richards. He's had one season of senior football and already he can get his hands on the football. Imagine my shock, not to mention our onballers, when Richards started giving our guys first use and not having to shark the oppositions ruck. We brought him only slowly now we'll reap the benefits, long live Stretch! and fade into memory the cardboard cutout(stunning Steve McKee)

I was just reading through some classis pre-season posts. This would be one of the worst. Everyone admits that Tarrant needs to kick more goals, but he would make even more assits than goals per game. He takes the majority of his marks outside 50. In 2003 he led to comp. in marks - he took nealy 200 (only been done twice ever) as well as assists. He was crucial in us finishing second and making the Grand Final. He missed at least 5 games last year, and hald of the ones he played he had no support because Rocca was also out. I though it was just opposition supporters starting those rumors last year because they all knew too well how valuable players like Tarrant are. Wouldn't Geelong just love a forward like Chris Tarrant?

A little edit, and Rocca?? That just takes the cake.

Keep hearing these Lonie to the midfield calls.Make as much sense as Clement to the midfield.

Q..Now why would a player with his kicking skills + pace not have already made an impact in the midfield ?

A..Because his skills below the knees are crap & he is is purely a straight line runner.

Lonie will never be a midfielder at AFL level quite simply because the tools required are not in the box.
Well, we all saw last Friday night where Lonie plays his best football. On the ball and the wing giving drive into the foward line. I agree with Jonno26, he was just fantastic all night. How good was that play in the last quarter when Lonie ran onto it on the wing from the centre clearance and kicked it straight down the forward's throat? I think it was Walker. Most on here have said all along that he should at least start on the wing and then move back to half-back if required. I think what we say last Friday vindicates that.

Tarrant led the league in scoring assists in 2003 I believe with Akermanis. He was basically setting up as many goals as he was kicking them each game. This can be forgotten when comparing him with someone like Lloyd who wouldn't get an assist to save himself.

Rocca is the guy I think should have a 70+ goal season. Just hope he plays close enough to goal to do so.
