Latest list update.
Senior list 38 less 7 departures (Dwyer, Kennedy, Young, Freeman, Keeffe, Thomas, Kernezis).
Plus Howe, Treloar & hopefully Aish = 34
Upgrade Frost = 35
Hence we have space for 3-5 more senior players (dependent upon our final list...38 or 40).

If 38 players, we can go to draft with pick 26 & 47 (upgrade Frost with 63).
Take 1 DFA.
Then we add 2 rookies.
Senior 38, Rookie 6, Cat B Rookie 2

Rookie list:
Gault, TBS, Keeffe, Thomas plus 2 new rookies
Cat B Cox & Wyatt

If 40 players, we can add additional 2 senior list players via draft or DFA (hence total 5 new players via draft & or DFA).
Add no new rookies (assuming we take Keefe & Thomas).
Senior 40, Rookie 4, Cat B Rookie 2

If this years draft is a weak as indicated, then DFA maybe preferred, hence we can take 1-3 DFA, unless we complete some surprise late trades tomorrow for some depth players.

Any decent names in the DFA?
I know we have apparently been interested in saad

I like Saad, when he lines up for a goal I have plenty of time to get a beer & get back to my seat.

Depending on your mood you could drink it as well before he kicks
The first beer yes, you always get 4 though. Otherwise it's a waste of time.

Thanks for pulling all that together. Nice and clear. :thumbsu:

Is it worth taking Mitch Brown with a late pick in the ND rather than Rookie-ing him just to ensure we get him? I only suggest this because we'll likely have to make a pick in the 60s which is less likely to work out than he is IMO. Or is there some kind of rule stopping him from entering the ND?

We won't know until after the 1st list lodgement on 30 Oct.
Then the first DFA period commences from 31 Oct until 9 Nov.

Good depth to have I think. Depends on what other names pop up in DFA period.

I've mentioned this before but two young boys from Port that got de listed are Mason Shaw and Mitch Harvey who are both key position prospects. Both showed a bit of talent in their draft years but both are more project types than the finished product. Worth a punt given our list profile.

Aside from that I don't mind Saad but I'd have him as a rookie instead.

Who was the last kid to get delisted then immediately get picked up again and have a successful career?

If he's been delisted so quickly there are clearly big issues, if he has a great year in the VFL then maybe you look at someone like Shaw

Well with 7 departures & only 2-3 arrivals so far, we either have to (a) quickly trade for other players, (b) recycle via DFA or (c) use late picks in a shallow draft.
Maybe best to roll the dice with young high risk, high reward players (like Marsh)...I don't know who though.

Now looks like we will go into draft with 27, 66, 77, 83, 84, 101, 119 http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-...ubs-provisional-picks-as-trade-period-unfolds

I don't believe there is anything stopping us from upgrading Frost with 119 if we wanted so could use 27, 66, 77 in the draft. Any signings of delisted players would reduce the need to use 77 and possibly even 66. I'd be very surprised if we take anything other than only 38 senior listed players into next year (plus 2 nominated rookies). Having our second live pick in round 4 suggests we might target 2 DFAs (or do we have to use 3 picks (including 1 on Frost)?

I note that 2 players who were listed as delisted then got traded: Fitzpatrick (Melb to Hawks) & Johnson (Cats to Giants). Says to me the delisting paperwork is not lodged until needed (makes sense) so I wonder if CFC would give Dwyer another year in wake of PK leaving?? Depends how they rate him vs DFAs and draftees possibly available at 77. Could also have him for just one year instead of a draftee for two years, with goal of replacing him in deeper draft.

Very happy to land Treloar.
Happy to have Aish.
Uncertain about Howe (hoping he exceeds expectations like Crisp & Varcoe) but is largely an unknown for me (don't watch a lot of Melbourne & other than his marking don't hear much about him.)

Can't help feeling we overpaid for all 3, especially Aish (we've given up points equating him to just better than pick 6 when he was uncontracted), whilst getting moderate to poor returns for our leaving players. End of day we should have a stronger 2016 best 25-30 but weaker depth beyond that and fewer opportunities (other than FA) to add quality next year without giving up quality.

With only 1 pick in the top 50, we nust have DFAs on our mind.

I wouldnt mind adcock as backup in defence, whilst stokes could be the dangerous small forward we need on a 1 year deal.

Warnock will likely be delisted by carlton as well in case we want some ruck depth

Dave I was wondering if you could expand on your opinion of yesterday when you said a couple of times that we had messed up this trade period?

I assume it was the time factor (delayed trades) that meant we missed out when all the TOP end picks were being traded out for multiple picks (for points for academy picks).
However, as it turned out we didn't really have the currency to trade back into the first round, as the Howe & Aish trades cost us more than we all anticipated.
We thought we would have a swag of 2nd round picks to trade with...but in the end, we didn't.
