What did you think of the game and performances of the players??

I was pretty disappointed after being so close. Tarrant and Rocca having quiet a quiet night didnt help. So I hope that next week there is a big improvement or else we are in trouble. On the bright side I thought Thomas, Bucks and Fraser were awesome Johno, Lonie at stages and Dids were good. not gonna say anything more for the moment gotta get some sleep now

Does anyone know the injuries with Clement and Tarrant? be good to hear what u guys thought who were at the game, had to put up with terrible commentary (walls = shocking and crap)

Last quarter was ********ing pathetic. They cant run out the game.

I thought they struggle to cope with the boring chipping game that Adelaide played more so than struggling to run out the game.

The most positive thing to come out of the game was Fraser. Not only was he great around the ground but It was the best ruckwork I have ever seen from him.

Obviously Thomas was a big possitive but he is so small I would be farily confident he will tire mid-late in the year. Don't expect him to do this week in week out.

Forward line was very dissapointing but so to was the delivery into the forward line. The mids still struggle to hit targets and this could mean another long year if they dont learn to be more efficient very quickly .

One thing this game confirmed is how meaningless stats are. Take Dane swan , Probably had the most ps yet I doubt he was in our top 7/8 players. He goes sideways , backwards and very rarely forward. If he does its normally a 30 mtr kick. How is this going to help our forwards????

Not all is lost but there is still a bit of work to be done if we are to be top 8

Rocca had 2 reasons

Being stuck in FF is no good, he needs to be at CHF there taking marks, and kicking goals!

Way too harsh on Swan, he was solid tonight and would be in my top 3-4 players of the night, he didnt get much options when he had the ball either and dished off a lot of clever handballs under pressure

It is the same old sh*t that Collingwood puts out every year, and its the same players that let us down. Players who turn the ball over, a forward line that doesn't f**king work, slow midfield that doesn't run through the lines and have no opponent responsibilty whatsoever (apart from Brodie Holland who did a stella job shutting McLeod out of the game) and a coach that gets out-coached most weeks. When it matted, Adelaide were too smart, patient and well drilled, we panicked, turned the ball over and looked stupid.

It has got me stuffed how Shane O'Bree continually gets a game. Out of 35 possessions, 5 at most would've been effective. Guy Richards is definately not the answer, either is Neon Leon Davis playing a midfirld role. Egan runs around like a chicken thats had his head chopped off, Tarrant can't work himself into games unless the ball is delivered to him on a silver plater, Jason Cloke being taken off and being left off at the first sign of trouble and Rocca not getting near it!

On the positive, Ryan Lonie was good, Fraser was terrific in the ruck I thought (some of his ruckwork was unbelievable), Swan continues to rack up possessions, Presti was superb in defence and Maxwell gave his all as usual. Then there is Dale Thomas. All of you on the Collingwood threads who bagged the Maggies and Thomas after seeing him play one bloody game, should a have a long hard look at yourselves. He has a bl**dy crack and thats all you can ask for a first year player. Skillful, willing to the 1%ers, takes on the opposition, breaks the lines and can take a screamer. He is going to be something special.

Burns has to be an inclusion next week, and why not give Walker a run in the ruck, at least he has a crack whereas Richards is as weak as p**s.

PS. Can anyone tell me if Paul Licuria was selected, not sure whether he was out there tonight

Yeah, Swan was solid.

Fraser was good nearly - problem was Richards didn't back him up.

You guys were good early, but IMO played too many talls (or Clokes), along with Clement injury & you ran out of legs.

It's only the 1st round & you are better placed than last year.

PS. Thomas looks the goods, but Rocca still needs to find his heart.

Thats it.

Ya gotta lose the coach too. Micky didint counter our ruck dominance and just waited for something to happen. By that time the pies had gone cold and the crows had snatched the run.

Thomas had a great debut:cool:

Our delivery into the forward line and centre clearances was the difference b/w the two sides.

You gotta feel for Tarrant who works his butt off and for 3 years now just continually gets very very poor delivery. He would be a superstar in the Adelaide side (eg. Riccuitto's 6). Is is just poor skills or is it the price you pay for having kids?

Adelaide are good, don't forgot that. I still think we are gonna give it a shake this year, the endeavour, the commitment were good ala 2002/3. We weren't at our best (either were they) but as we settle into the season, I don't fear any side if we play our best. So many players, not to mention the team structure, will be better for the run. A good run with injuries, a few games together and this side will fire.

Thomas wow, Lonie good, O'Bree excellent, Swan excellent, Buckley back to his normal self and Fraser has developed significantly. Lockyer's disposal hurt, Richards didn't impact and Cloke was not the right match for Burton (shoulda gone Maxwell IMO).

Overall we need to mature, which comes from playing consistently together. If we had of had Burns, Cara and Morrison for Egan, Lockyer/Johnson/JCloke and Trav, we mighta won, but mid/long term it's worth the punt.

Yeah drop Egan for Cara, egan did crap all tonight, he could not hold onto the ball at it was crap, seriously the next few weeks for us on paper should be easy so its gonna be interesting where we are placed after we play port. I want to see improvement now not in rnd 22.

u complete fool, that was for 7/8 mins in the 3rd quarter, not the "game".

other than that, pretty good hard fought game, entertaining by both sides and I thought the pies wuld run over us in that final term. Dale Thomas looks pretty classy!

hehe it was what we were thinking too after all that special training camp hype, and the hype that we were the fittest in years!!

I've posted about 4-5 replies to all the threads about tonight's game and the season coming up, unfortunatley I'm a positive supporter so i get no response.

You guys are weak.

Today's society is made up of negativety and you are all just whingers. It's ok, I bet you all switch on to "tomorrow we have footage of a car salesman exploiting a young chick and/or an american car chase that you won't believe". Enjoy Jeeerrryyy..... but for all of us devote supporters...good signs tonight I reckon.

Well the easy way is to be negative.

But the facts are we were playing the flag favourites and were in the match for 3 quarters despite zero impact from our two key forwards and a blinder of a game from Ricciuto. So i take comfort from the fact that it took a superstar at the top of his game to prove the difference.

The Crows had to change their game plan and BORE us to death in the third quarter when we had the momentum. Its funny the AFL has brought in all these new rules to speed up the game etc yet its fine to chip the ball around and waste time to break a teams momentum.

The key will be the next 4 or 5 weeks as we cannot afford to get off to horror starts like the previous years otherwise its season over. I hope a few players are rotated as we are coming off a short break.

Sloth man, very well said,

The thing that really fustrated me the most is, why do you keep Rocca in the forward line when he is having a bad night? Play him in the ruck, let him crash into opponents, let him do something!!! FCS, Craig worked Mick like a toy boy.

I dont have a problem with swans workrate or ability to get the footy and yes he dished out a few good handballs under pressure but let me ask you a few questions.

If you were a forward and saw swan with the ball would you know what do ?? and what value is a kick if it goes 30 metres sideways only to come straight back where if came from(except for the value of doubling your stats). Atleast half of swans touches are worthless. He rarely kicks more than 30 mts because he knows he cannot hit targets over a distance. Compare this to ben johnson who when he gets the ball his first instinct is to look forward and if he cannot see a target he runs forward with the ball until he can find an option. IMO swan is a very ineffective footballer.

Attack to post not the man, although I probably expecting too much from a crows supporter .After the first 2 and half quaters it was a woeful game to watch . The whole tempo changed , it went from a fast free flowing game with lots of contests to a very slow broing game. This was not a critcism of the crows, infact it was a match winning tactic .It is more a criticism of the way the game is headed. I hate changing rules but they have to stop awarding marks for kicks that go backwards and they need to increase the kicking limit to 25 metres. And for gods sake get rid of this B&&&&&&T quick kick in rule
