It shits me that we are seen as a premiership fluke, built on defensive efforts only. We ******* flogged the 3 best sides in the finals and kicked over 100 each time.

Hardwick from day one never thought that we would win a premiership with goals being so reliant on 1-2 individuals. The one consistent through his 8-years with us was everyone kicking goals. Even whilst the football world (including the majority of Richmond supporters) was bashing him for not playing Jack out of the square.

He was right.

Caracella, Balme, Leppa and Rutten have taken an enormous amount of praise for what they have introduced to the club in 2017 - probably too much, when under our nose, Dimma's plan was being played out under our nose.

PPPffftttttt you say it yourself it was built around defense. Well for 7 yrs Hardwick had us all pulling our hair out because we were the worst tackling least accountable side yr after yr.
We have a review god knows how close Hardwick actually came to losing his job all the assistents are replaced with new coaches and suddenly we change the way we play.
Seems to me those assistants dont get enough credit.

Maybe Dimma was lucky he had that contract. Who knows. But its a double edged sword mate, you take the ups and the downs and they did roll the dice a bit last year. Had it gone pear shaped would you be calling for the heads of the assistants?

Lol had it gone pear shaped it would have just been more of the same who in their right mind would want to sack a pile of assistants after one yr regardless of where they finished.

After the swans loss I wanted him gone. But I knew the club wouldn’t sack him because of his contract. Knowing this I wanted the club to do something to correct the failings and they did it. They probably did everything you could possible do bar sacking him.

You can criticise him but at this point I’m not sure on what basis you could legitimately do so

Is this little debate not about how much influence the new boys had and weather Hardwick can take the credit for the changes.
The new coaches come in and we have a quantum change in how we go about it after 7 yrs.

I dont see anything that is unjustified we all ask just how much influence the new blokes had it wasnt until they came to the club that we changed.
What!!! we just ignore the obvious question because its inconvenient?Then label it criticism while we are at it.

Mopsy has every right to criticise Hardwick for failing to get the best out his list (especially from 2014 -16).

Everyone (players, coaches, Balmey) at Richmond did a great job in 17 and this should be acknowledged.

But a whole heap of people acknowledged Dimma got it wrong in previous years. In particular that he over-coached and the game plan was wrong. This includes Dimma himself, previous coaches like Chocco Williams, new coaches who introduced different philosophies and tactics, players like Jack and Flossy who have stated that now players play to their strengths rather than everyone being homogenised under Hardwick's previous philosophy and importantly the review acknowledged it with the emphasis on changing almost every football department position, shipping Dimma off overseas to work on himself and bringing in assistants who can supplement the club's footy IQ particularly in relation to offence which Dimma really struggled with.

Damian was always very good at defensive structures, culture and man management. A read of Marshall's book shows he sold the message beautifully this year and inspired the troops.

Fact is if Dimma hadn't acknowledged and addressed his weaknesses we wouldn't be reigning premiers today.

One other thing we did was attack and shutdown the outlet player, many teams focus on the ball carrier but leave the outsider alone, teams who do this get cut up on the outside but we focused on this as well which is why we performed so well against those type of teams.
