Are player agents earning their keep?

Do player agents make a living?

There are currently 77 accredited AFL agents representing 729 players. This works out at roughly 9.5 players per agent. Taking into account the average salary, it is easy to deduce how much money an agent makes per year. Assuming the regulated 4% agent commission on AFL contracts, an agent will receive $10,607 per player per year. Multiplying this by 9.5, an average agent will make approximately $100,766 per year from his clients.

After costs, there isn't much left?

I assume a bunch of them are rookies players dads, friends, associates and the like which would skew the results spectacularly.

Agent commission on endorsements is where it would be at, not just playing contracts.

As the body representing the collective professional interests of AFL Players, the Players’ Association has an obligation to ensure that competent and ethical individuals represent its members.
To help ensure this, the Players’ Association manages a compulsory accreditation process for Accredited Agents
PLEASE NOTE: THE 2014 ACCREDITATION WINDOW IS NOW CLOSED.

I've never heard of any poor abused soul being forced at gun point into taking the job as a player manager, so I'm sure they do okay. Some of the lesser ones may only be able to afford only one BMW for their garage instead of three but life can be cruel in that way
