OK.. did I hear right.. St Kilda is looking at Darren Jolly to fill the hole left by trading McEvoy???

Heaven help me.. that club is in trouble..

It appears they want to lock in Pick 1 next year.. figure they have to get rid of every drop of talent on their list to make them the equal of Melbourne and GWS..

lol you're not that stupid, are you?
Jolly will sign and be on the Rookie list and be used as a mentor for Hickey, Stanley, Holmes and Pierce who are all young and would help a lot learning a great player

Comparing JD (possibly the key player in our fwd line for the next 5-10 years) with Myers who is what 8th 9th best mid?

That trade scenario is following your logic. You assume Myers has no upside, but Daniher is destined for stardom.

I see the core group of players that will take us to flag contention as being Heppell, Zakka, Melksham, Carlisle, Hurley etc. With Jobe and Goddard being older leaders as icing on the cake. Trading out Myers who adds strength to that core group is crazy.

with myers injuries I class him a 2-3 year player who is about to hit his straps

OK.. but do you think he will be better than Montagna in the next two seasons?

I think it is cool to disagree on this point.. no one really will know until it all unfolds..

No I see Daniher as a 19 year old and I see Myers as a what 23-24 year old who has been passed already by Hepps, Hocking, Howlett and Melksham.

Trade a top 10 middle aged ruckman that played 22 games, and is about to hit his prime.. that could becomes a top 3 ruck superstar. so you can get an old hack, past it Ruck man who may not be able to get on the field.. to mentor some other young rucks that may never reach the heights of the guy you already had...

Yep.. I'm the stupid one alright.. enjoy pick 17.. I'm sure the player you get with that will lead you to the promised land..

Oh and Jolly is shot.. couldn't ever really run.. but now can't run at all.. also literally can not jump more than 5cm off the ground.. so have fun with that.. I'm sure Hickey is going to enjoy having his body smashed up by guys like Cox, Nic Nat, Bellchambers, Mummy et al each and every week... is going to do wonders for his development..

I just looked at it as stupid, but then when you consider the punishment for Hickey. Makes it even more absurd.

Without injuries and full preseasons and season, yes very possible he could average 25+ disposals a game with all the other necessary stats for a midfielder. He was pick 6 for a reason he obviously showed he can play.

Myers is on the way up (proved so this year). Montagna is on the way down (he's 29). IMO they will cross in the next two years. Montagna is not enough of an upgrade to bring in a veteran for an improving mid-aged player that complements our core age-group.

Myers isn't fit to piss on Scotty.

heck me - are you seriously comparing Scotty to Myers?
im comparing lack of right foot kicking skills? unless im missing something that Lucas was a elite right footer? well he did kick it on his right to Moorcroft when he used brad Johnson as a step ladder

Sooo, what is this trade for Joey? Who is contracted. And a best 22 player at any club. Let me guess, Leeroy Jetta and a sandwich? Something like that?

We will give you TWO sandwiches to take Jetta.

That sandwich better not have any meat. Just lettuce and sauce. As if we are paying overs!!!!

......or does that only apply to the Hawks?

Hawks got McEvoy at the greater expense of the club. Brian Taylor had repeatedly tried breaking into the locker rooms and was harassing the team. It had to be done.

So was Gumby. So was Jarrad Grant.
Myers actually showed something this year, the others you have name haven't that's including gumbys 16+ odd games in the one season

yes, let's compare one aspect and ignore the fact Scotty was an all time great.
your the one that bought up one aspect of Myers game, don't get narky now at me because I used it against you.

Except that one is best 22 player and the other isn't, so not really the same.

Don't be surprised if Myers gets squeezed out of the best 22 next year.. just sayin..

Rumours are that Thompson doesn't rate his game that highly.. and as mentioned.. he is clearly now ranked behind the following for full time midfield spots:

Watson, Heppell, Goddard, Stanton, Zaka, Hocking, Melksham

Is competing with the following for rotating midfield/HB/HF spots:
Hibberd (yes), Howlett, Winderlich, Chapman, Merrett, EKav, Hams, Colyer

I've said it before.. most teams now carry 3 tall Def, 2 small Def, 1 rotating Def/Mid.. 2 Rucks, 3 tall Forward, 1 small def forward, 2 rotating For/Mid.. 6 'full time' mid's, 1 Tagger and 1 utility as the sub..

Look at the roles Myers *could* play:
Rotating Def/Mid.. but has to beat Dempsey/Hibberd so not likely - Hibberd most likely
Rotating For/Mid.. but will have to beat Chapman, Zaka, Winderlich, Merrett, Howlett.. and he is not a natural foward so not likely - Chapman and Winderlich most likely
Tagger - not likely, this will be Hocking
Pure Mid's - has to beat Watson (1), Heppell (2), Goddard (3), Stanton (4), Melksham (5) Zaka (6).. so not likely..

I'm not looking to argue.. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why Myers is looking around (and we are looking at 'what' is out there.. ) is because he knows/we know.. he is not going to be part of our starting midfield next year..

So would I trade him for Montagna.. absolutely.. Montagna goes ahead of both Melksham and Zaka.. and probably Stanton..
