I will have a go at assessing how the players lived up to my expectations this year. I will give them a plus or minus as to how I expected them to perform. All expectations were from the pre season.
Bell - played as expected.
Bootsma - not in the mix, WAFL.
Leigh Brown - thought he would have more impact, but hard playing on and off the bench. ( - ).
Andrew Browne - first year, played well at Claremont, but suffered from injuries.
Carr - expected a solid year, did that and added a couple of goals when reversing the tag. ( + ).
Cook - played as expected.
Croad - overall did ok, but he can do a little better. ( - ).
Cunningham - some good things but has to step up another level. ( - ).
Dodd - not in the mix (CC not my idea) and injured.
Eastaugh - used at the Gummies to teach Sandilands the trade.
Farmer - expected more, only saw it in patches, prefer him closer to goals. ( - ).
Fewster - Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Grover - stepped up and matured beautifully ( + ).
Haddrill - injured.
Haines - stepped up. ( + ).
Haselby - we all knew that he was good but bounced back to form and added the marking / goalkicking to his CV. ( + ).
Hayden - out of no where, did well in the end. ( + ).
Jones - showed the goods and then was injured. ( - ).
Kickett - obviously not in favour with the match committee, but showed alot of dignity to go out when he still had alot to offer. ( - ).
Koops - finally did what has been expected of him. ( + ).
JLo - had a so so season with injury restricting his kicking. ( - ).
TLo - injuries and not in favour. ( - ).
McManus - gave 100% as usual, seemed to have taken another step. ( + ).
McPharlin - expected him to make a couple of appearances late in the year, turned out to be a darn gigantic bonus for this year ( + ).
McPhee - fell out of favour, plus injuries. ( - ).
Medhurst - expected him to be a "fill in" player off the bench maybe, but his great work rate pushed him into the best 18. ( + ).
Metro - injuries. (will I ever see his face again!!). Angels fans can answer that.
Norrish - played a very good final year. ( + ).
Parker - yawn, boring, yes he did what was expected.
Pavlich - thought he would take another step, he did and learnt alot. ( + ).
Polak - showed that he can play at the senior level, but injuries curtailed him.
Shipp - not in the mix.
Seigert - up from the rookie list, always gave an honest contest. ( + ).
Simmonds - thought he would share the ruck, but did it mostly himself, very good value for money. ( + ).
Thornton - one game, still learning the trade.
Toia - injuries and not in the mix.
Walker - overall did well this year. ( + ).
Waterhouse - injured before the season started.
Woods - expected more from him, very laconic but can he kick a footy!!. ( - ).
There's the summary and from that I can see where there is room for improvement. I haven't put plus or minus next to some because they either played as expected, too young to be rated, injured or not in the mix.
Your comments are welcome.
