Team Captain
There has been an interesting debate on this site & rivals.net on the role of the coach.
IMO people attribute way to much to a coach. I agree that ultimately a coach is responsible as in practical terms you cannot sack a whole team of poor performers but it's easy to sack a coach.
There is a very childish attitude amongst AFL followers to what a coach can achieve. In no other sport is a coach held up as someone who virtually wipes the players bums & spoonfeeds them breakfast in the morning & tucks them into bed at night.
Once they are on the paddock the players are ultimatly responsible for their actions & what goes on the scoreboard.
If we have not improved by say rnd 20 - you might say Matthews & players have a communication problem & something needs to be done. But after rnd 3???
Holding the players up to be morons without a brain of their own is really stupid.
