Joey wasn't right, still played.

Roo wasn't right, still attempted to play.

Add that to the other injuries.

7 or more hamstrings...

Reasons for concern?

Lol no. Veterans know their bodies and know when they can play. Joey fully intended to sit the next one or two out so he could play for Riewoldt and calves are a funny thing that can just ping.

( i apologise in advance :p)

I was pretty critical the l;last couple of years when we lost Roberton for a year after he played on a damaged ankle and nearly ruined his career. Rushed Gilbert back twice for a similar result. Steven last year too. Hope our medical staff know what they are doing.

with the two issues you raised, i'm more concerned with the hammies than the playing injured stuff

the hammies thing was just mismanagement plain and simple. tried to increase loading by far too much and then did too much hill running. not sure theyre used to our sport

rightfully should be questioned, like you have done

playing injured, i think you are right to critique as well

I'm with Defacto, I'm very critical of hamstring issues but not with these guys playing 'hurt'. Repeated hamstring injuries was just really poor management, inexcusable to be honest and it has hurt our season early on. I'm very worried now with Jack's hamstrings.

As for playing hurt, big Friday night game, who the hell is going to tell Nick no? Rooey probably did his best to hide the discomfort as well, champ that he is.

Joey wanted to be there for his mate. No concerns there for mine. Shouldn't be holding him back from playing with Nick on what would have been a tough day for Rooey.

Riewoldt would've retired 3-4 years ago if he didn't play with question marks.

i think comparing his knee issue to his calf is unfair. one is an ongoing issue with no fix. the calf is a strain he picked up lately, common in older players as their bodies start to fail. playing through it wasnt exactly smart given the type of injury

This.

Calf strain and/or niggles is described as the old man injury.

All week ex players were saying you don't even attempt to play through one.

Calf is something that gets knots as you are older, but its dangerous as its part of the wider mechanics of the lower body - all the way up through the back. I retired from higher-level sports as I was getting repeated knee tendonitis and bursitis, but they were caused by calf and IT band issues that in turn stemmed from foot issues. In your twenties your body compensates. In your thirties your body starts to concede.

On the wider issue...

In 2013 we had a down season where apparently our poor luck with injuries contributed.
In 2014 we had a horrendously unlucky run with injuries.
In 2015 we lose a bunch of guys during preseason, some for a bit, some for half the year, none of them are impact injuries.

When does it stop being unlucky and start being an actual issue?

I think 2005/2006 was worse

Hamill, Maguire, X. Clarke, Kosi, Ball, Hayes, R. clarke, Penny, Watts

In many cases they had career ending injuries
