Have been down to Melb and seen the Blues training and noticed a few of the kids have bulked up considerably. Some look taller also.

Hartlett is killing them, Russell looks taller and a bit bigger, Walker could be a monster in time but is a great size at the moment, Wiggins looks bigger again and Bentick has shown big results from time in the gym.

Very excited about Hartlett, looked great at training. Can jump, kick well and a super mark. Looks like a key forward at either CHF or FF for mine.

Bower and Murphy are better than I expected skill wise. Bower is also bigger than I thought. Looks bigger than 192cm/87kg. Same for Edwards as he looks bigger than 192cm/83kg - both may well be around 193-194cm with Bower I'd expect over 90kg. Could be wrong but was great to see big kids with talent on the park.

Sounds great.Hope we get a look at them in NAB Cup

good stuff mate! when do we do the skill sessions. i wouldn't mind having a look myself. ;)

Can anyone foresee Adam Hartlett playing as a key forward next year with Paul Bower playing as a key defender next year? Big units these two and along with Josh Kennedy add height and strength for the future.

Add Waite, Fisher, Thornton, Raso and Edwards arond these guys and the bigman department is looking much better for the future.

Anyoen know enough about Edwards as to whether or not he can develop into a KPP of the future. At training he lookes big and looks to have the sort of build/frame that will allow him to be very bulky and strong rather than a wiry-type.

I dont think Bower even played seniors in WA last year. Only 17, skills still sound a bit raw around the edges and may need to build up some aerobic capacity i would think. Besides he would probably get monstered by Tredrea and Brown type CHF's, lets give the guy a couple of seasons to develop.

he also said that he would like to play wing next year suggesting his body is nowhere near ready to play KP.

Thanks for the update, its exciting to see so many young guys coming through, big change from a few years ago when we paraded 10 or so has beens.

In the VFL yes but not in the AFL.

Hartlett and Bower are not fit enough yet. The whole year in the VFL for mine stringing game after game together. Maybe push for selection in the AFL at the end of the year if there form is good and there are injuries to other talls.

Edwards is likely to develop into a KPP size in time and has a pretty decent build and is just off 192 and bottom aged so has plenty of scope for improvement. Very versatile but lacks running power at this stage and will need to work on that as well as his skills.

Raso I think will be a flanker and not KPP. Very skillful and better out on his own delivering the ball rather than in congestion.

The recruiting of Kennedy and Bower looks like the end of Lance for mine. 2 years for Lances contract to run out and in that time those 2 may well be CHF/CHB for the future.
Not all things work out so easily but would say Lance and Livo as KPPs are not seen as long term players at the club.

Livo will be given every chance this year to show he deserves another contract. He knows it is his last chance at Carlton in 2006.
1 thing about Livo is that he will not die wondering and will give everything he has got. Hope he makes it as he really is a good bloke but will need to improve by quite a lot.

Flint as a long term replacement for Teague in 2007.

At the end of Whitnall's next contract we'll be able to put him on the Veterans list... I think. If that's the case I can't see them delisting him if he's playing at an adequate level.

30 and 10 years service at 1 club.

So Lance has a few more years to go.

Cant see Lance playing into his 30s anyway.

Hopefully he has a good season next year and we then trade him for a low pick in the "Super draft".

Am told there are around 20 kids who are future guns at this stage! Sellar & Gibbs at the top.

Nobody will trade a low pick in next years draft. Trading seems almost impossible these days unless it is from the Roos.
Just a few fringe players and thats it.

The top 10 next year is a lot better than this year and runs much deeper into the 40s and 50s with some talent at this early stage. Better for later picks and the rookie draft.

Unlike this year when Hughes said we were using 4 picks only and 2 rookie selections and everything was done around that with the delistings.

Next year if it will be 5 or 6 picks in the draft and 3 or 4 rookies then all the promotions/delistings will reflect that.

Anybody without a contract will be the first ones to go.

Lance for pick 12 in 2005 at 26 years of age is about the same as Lance for pick 20/25 next year at 27 years of age in a better draft.

Would take that.

Agree in needing 5 or 6 picks next year in a strong draft and looks like Hughes and co. are thinking that way. Out of the current list that will really struggle I think Davies, Wiggins, Bannister, Sporn, Livingston, Prendergast, Teague, McGrath and Whitnall as I said could be serious trouble already if they don't up the ante in a big way next year.

Rookies that I hope at this early stage that kick on are Smith and Jackson as onballers and would like the 2 rucks to at least improve. Aisake likely to have another year as an international rookie.

F/S selections - Sheldon can be taken in 06 & 07 is that correct? And Tomi next year. Will be interesting to see what approach we take.

Terrific update Pivot. Keep up the good work mate.

I dont think Lance is in trouble as far as delisting. He had a good year in 2005 and deserves his position. Just that Kennedy is a long term CHF and Bower is a long term CHB. They both may not make it but there is still Hartlett who is another power KPP and other developing talls as well.
In 2 years the situation with Lance might well be different and he is surplus to need if they can get a mid for him or a decent draft pick. Depends on his form and really all said and done it comes done to 1 thing with Lance and that is his fitness.
He is on a modified program with swimming and bike riding midweek and cant do hard running all the time. At 26 years of age with a poor body type that is not a good sign.

As far as others I put up a deatiled post on it with who was coming out of contract in another thread.

1 year

Bryan
Livo
Wiggins
Bannister
Prenda
Houla
McGrath (?) might be 2
Chambers
Longmuir
Sporn

Teague 2 Years
Deluca 2 Years

all those players would have question marks on them for the future.

Smith, Batson will have to be promoted or cut.

Both are high chances to be promoted. Batson has bulked up and Smith has slimmed down and is much fitter and quicker this year.

Tommi is an oustide chance of being picked up next year. Will have to grow and bulk up and improve. Some chance as he is a ball winner and good in traffic. Available next year in the nat draft and rookie draft or to use a 3rd round pick and father/son or a 2nd round pick under father/son if we also take Sheldon.

Sammy Sheldon is a more likely pick up. Cant be rookied by us next year. To young. So national draft for him.

I know Whitnall is on a 2 year contract and can't be delisted next year. Maybe a trade but that's a long way off at this stage. Hartlett, Kennedy and Bower I am very excited about as big, strong, mobile KPP.

Edwards could be.

Raso maybe, very skinny still.

Quick, silky, classy midfielders are still something we crave but I am very happy with Murphy (as everyone is) and think Smith and Jackson will be in our midfield for a while. Jackson is class - going to be an excellent player!

Batson is huge at the moment - all muscle too. Aiskae and Setanta are getting bigger but are remaining very agile and quick for guys aroun or above 2m tall.

Blue skies ahead!

Pivot, nothing against you mate, but I am sick and tired of talk.
Every pre-season now for the past 3, I have heard this and that, only for the same old football display.

Well time for CFC board/coaching department to put up or ship out.

No more excuses.
Walker Murphy Russell (centre line?) are our top picks from the national draft (3 years now).
McClaren Stevens (followers?) Pre-Season top picks.

Time is in 2006.

No, Bower didnt play any WAFL League matches in 2005, his skills are good and is very good on both sides of the body, not sure what his Beep Test etc scores were at the Draft Camp, but at the beginning of last pre season with Peel Thunder Colts he recorded a Beep Test score of mid 14's, only beaten by Kristen (Sydney Rookie) & Bryce Thornton.

He is definately not ready to play a KP or possibly even get a match in 2006...

Denis is very reluctant to trade. Unless he has a falling out with a player he prefers to keep them (Schwass, Hulme, Beaumont, McKernan etc).
Mot really a coach who plays a lot of kids either. Just prefers to make them earn there spot and if they dont show something staright away they are taken off and then dropped the following week.
After a few years on the list they then get a good go like Bentick and Simpson.

I would think if we were going to trade Lance it would have been this year. Might be some chance next year I suppose depending on how the other talls go.

But looking ahead for next year (which is hard to do) there are a number of KPP guns but not many mids in that class. So we may well be adding another tall next year with our top pick.

Gibbs is an utility (Hird) type.
Jetta has pace and skills but is small.
Selwood is a genuine inside midfielder but not quick.

Hansen, Gumbelton, Thorp, Riewdolt are genuine gun KPPs for next year.
Sellar, Leunberger as rucks for next year top 10 on top of those as well.
Renouf and a few more also promising talls.

Have to hope that some promising mids in Proud, Sherringham and Petterd really develop.

Understand that mate. You need to put the past 3 years into perspective though. We've had duds through trades and I don't think many supporters were thinging finals or anything. At the moment we have genuine cause for excitement and next year wil be even better when hopefully we will pick up 5 or 6 excellent kids in the super draft.

This is the best bunch of young kids we've had for a while - still plenty to prove and aren't world-beaters, but are very promising.

That's the reasoning for supporters being excited about season 06, we have good kids on our list - FINALLY!!!

I agree Pivot, and besides if you dont have hope and a positive outlook at this time of the year then why even turn up next season.... In my view we will be very competitive next year for the following reasons:

J. Waite - will be 23 and ready to turn it on.
A. Walker - has already shown glimpses that he will be a very good player and is only 19 (doesnt turn 20 until mid year).
D. McLaren - We desperately needed another good ruckman, now we have one.
B.Fevola - We know what he is capable of and he will be injury free and attitude improved.
A. Carrazzo - Looks like a player and could go into the midfield and add some run.
K. Simpson - A Player with pace and can run the lines has been a desperate requirement the last few years. If Simo continues on with his form of this year then he will be a very good and damaging player.
J. Saddington - We all know that we have had kids playing KP Defensive roles now for 2 or 3 years. Saddington will ease the load, has alot of experience and was in consideration for All Australian selection a couple of years ago.
B. Thornton - Has proven his mettle in my view. For a player of his age to perform and hold his own with some of the best forwards in the competition says alot about his character and determination. He has put on more muscle, has more experience and now has some assistance from Saddington.
J.Russell - Anyone who has been down to training would have seen the muscle he has put on (and needed to by the way). He now looks like he could mix it with the men and I think will be a big improver this year.
M. Lappin - Contract done and dusted and he can settle back on the HBF and become the creative player he was in 04.
B. Fisher - Another player that has proven that he can cut it at the highest level. Over 12 months since the knee injury and has also bulked up. Will add alot of bite to our forward line and often gets the 3rd best defender.
C. Chambers - didnt get the chance to show alot this year as got injured early, however he can be a very good midfielder and will add alot of pace to the team.
C.Bryan - Has put on a stack of muscle. I think could play key position and we may have the luxury of trying him there now with the addition of McLaren. And lets not forget the Super kick he is.
R. Houlihan - Could not possibly perform worse than he did this year. We all know he doesnt get the hard ball but every team has a receiver. He is very creative and skillfull and is 23 next year. The time will be right for him to take more responsibility in the midfield.
A. Hartlett - Last year affected heavily due to injury. He has also put on alot of muscle, has an aggressive streak and could play KP. Gives us another tall option down back.
S. O'Hailpin - Thought he was great considering his little time in the game. Another who continues to add muscle and skills are getting better.
J. Kennedy - When his shoulder is right he would be a fantastic tall forward option. He has a great work ethic and hits the ball hard. Will suit the game plan.
P.Bower - I dont expect alot from him next year but he could be a suprise packet. He has great size and a good build already. Could possible play him on a younger tall and he would hold his own.
M. Murphy - Need I say more. We all know he is a quality player and we have had an absolute shortage in the past......

Lets be positive because there are plenty of reasons to be!

Was just looking at the NAB line-ups being posted and its obvious that our depth is increasing. I can't wait until we stick it up 15 other clubs.
