Silent Hill looks way too scary for me
That’s how I felt about not wanting to play Dead Space and Alan Wake, but then they became available on PS Plus and I played them all the way through. A bit weird how instantly brave I become when a scary game is given away for free. :p

Give it a go and see. It's pretty scary but also too good a game not to at least try out - ditto Alan Wake 2.

As an aside, not something that I do, but sometimes these kinds of games can be less scary if you loosely look at a guide as you play. You still get a lot of the great experiences but with less of the unknown.

Not the best way to play, but I'd say comfortably better than not playing at all. Both games do a lot right.

I'll give it a try but if I die of a heart attack I'll haunt you forever

Would SH2 be less scary if you put it on the easiest difficulty?
I'm sure it would help, but I doubt it would be substantial. Outside of a few choice sections SH2's brand of horror isn't so much about being powerless, it's about an incredibly unsettling environment where everything goes and there could be anything around any corner.

I want to play Silent Hill but I just don't like being chased by things 🙁

I had no issues with atmosphere and cheesy jump scares so am fine with things like Dead Space and Alan Wake, but the moment something is hunting me I crumble. Even the robot sequence thing at the end of Cyberpunk's Phantom Liberty gave me anxiety and there was nothing horror about that.

Will have to go back to Until Dawn. It's been a while and I've largely forgotten most of it.

Silent Hill 2 will most likely be too scary for me. Pass. But I've downloaded Alan Wake 2 and have it ready to go. Just need to watch story recaps for AW 1.

That’s going to be a test it out thing for me. Too scary and I am out.

I loved Until Dawn until the second part. The first part had me scared to look out the windows after playing when I was going to bed 😂

Did you ever play The Quarry? Same people made it, I didn't like it as much as Until Dawn but it was decent.

Yeah loved UD and The Quarry about the same I reckon. Can't get into the Dark Pictures games but those are standouts for me.

Personally found The Quarry hilarious, UD had atmosphere and the Dark Pictures just got silly with it IMO.

Known things like the Man of Medan were you know based on folk tales and such, but then Little Hope was more "ooo scary ghoooost", House of Ashes to Devil In Me was "I like Alien, Predator, slasher movies oh I know game!" so it lost its way for mine.

The world is scary enough when you switch things, you don't need to base it off random movies or brain farts as books to build horror.

Yeah I don't want to spoil UD for anyone that might play it but the first half was some of the most atmospheric horror I've ever had in a video game. I was hooked. Once the antagonist was revealed it lost most of its mystique for me.

I haven't played the Man of Medan ones but they're installed and in my to play list. I did have a feeling they wouldn't quite live up to the others.
