WHy would you play Robertson, Neitz or some of the older players over Newton? Was he injured?

My understanding is that the Dees won't be top 8 this season so as far as i am concerned we should put as many games into our kids as we can. Not leave them out of the 22 while we still have players in our team who can't run or chase or be bothered to play as a team.

Two disgraceful efforts by the Dees and also the coach Dean Bailey. If he wants to coach a team that doesn't want to play he should be as harsh as what he talks.

Bailey you should take the players off that aren't doing what they should be, and then the next week leave them out. You asked your Leadership group to stand up and be leaders well why don't you!! Come on Bailey you talk the talk but walk the walk!!

Why play Brad Miller? he is nothing more than a reserves player. Get Warnock in. Why play Jeff White? He only has ineffective hit outs and is hopeless. Why play RobertsoN? He wanted to leave the club during trade week and is obviously just in the way at the forward line now and past his best. Can Bailey please just leave Davey where he is best and thats in the forward pocket. He is no where near good enough in the midfield. Too scared of getting the hard ball. Neitz better take a good look at himself too. He is so slow. Wheatley i have never liked and he is not a defender. What i can't understand is why did we get rid of Ward? He suited the type of game that has to be played these days.

Anyway they are my thoughts. I once again have a Melbourne Membership for 2008 but i can't see any new members getting on board when they put in 2 efforts like that.

Facts are we don't know the inner going on's of the MFC, Newton may not have trained well this week, and the acid was on them to train hard after the dismal performance vs the Hawks, it has been confirmed that is why Moloney and Pettard missed, (injured at training) as they did not play for Sandringham today.

Bailey has his game plan, and his own performance indicators, while looking from the outside in, it may be a little hard to follow at times, after 2 games it's a little early to start questioning his motives in regards to player A or player B, he is a new coach and has to find where in his mind (not ours) he beleives each individual on the list is at.

We won't really know which players he rates and which ones he doesn't until after the season and delisting/trade time comes around - he can't sack the whole list.

Also, why would we not play the people we are paying the most money too? Robertson is still better then a youngster (even if he looks disinterested and its frustrating) - We can't simply send the kids out with no experienced players, because then the KIDS cop the blame for those performances, when it isn't their fault if they aren't developed for AFL yet, instead of the senior players that may or may not be moved on.

He's got a tough job, but remember he hasn't been there long yet, it takes awhile to stamp your own authority on a club.

All that said, i feel your frustration! Go Melbourne!

is it true baileys game plan is in spanish..

not even footballers who have played under english gameplans can adapt to it.

the same footballers that among the elitest group. playing football all their lives.

then why is it so hard. they spend 80 hours a week on it for the last 8 months plus 2-4 weeks holidays.

IT MUST BE A REALLY GOOD GAMEPLAN..........

haha im sure if you said, it would be good in 2,4,6 years time. it would be good.

WHy would you play Robertson, Neitz or some of the older players over Newton? Was he injured?...Neitz better take a good look at himself too. He is so slow.

Why on earth would you leave out the captain, the only 300 gamer at the club?? It'd be a detriment to the team if he wasn't out there. The sort of advice he'll give the youngsters is invaluable. And you can't possibly expect him to be as quick as he was a few years ago. It's looking like his last year at the club, let him be.

It's obvious when you compare the pace in the Geelong & Essendon midfields with ours to see why Bailey has thrown Davey in there. If we had a bit more pace then i'm sure we'd see Davey in the forward line. In any case, his primary role wouldn't be as an in & under midfielder, instead providing service to the forwards. As for Ward...ineffective kicking and horrible accountability? No thank you. Good decision to get rid of him - to keep him would've been terribly short-sighted.

But when comparing Geelong and Essendons midfield you would have to question the drafting and rebuilding of the club with the drafting of Grimes wouldnt you? He seems more of an in and under midfielder, a position you seem to have an abundance of.

I heard Chris Connelly say that before the season they nominated that the Football department would be sitting down at the end of Round 6, and that is when they believe they will have a fair indication of where each player is at. So possibly don't expect too many big name axings or changing of the team until then.

What a stupid view you have. If the Captain isn't performing up to standard which he hasn't done for over a season now. Which games have you been going to? I don't care if you have played 400 games for your club, when your below par against the opposition and your keeping other guys out of the team who could do better (i.e. Newton) then you need to retire or be dropped.

Fact is Davey can't stand it in the midfield. And it wasn't Bailey who threw him in the midfield. So obviously you know nothing about footy. Daniher did it last year and he was terrible if you can remember? His start to the season was a joke. Its sad to say but it doesn't look like he is as good as his brother who can float everywhere, and Aaron needs to stick to up forward where his best footy is.

Ok, let's drop the captain, further diminishing any notion of leadership we have in the team, then go around claiming others know nothing about football. It's all too easy to say that without delving into the problem. Go down to the Junction and suggest that to the team and see the sort of reaction you get.

I'm not going to argue about who put who where, fact of the matter is that Bailey could've put him back in the forward line but has him in the middle now and that's that. It's all well and good having Davey in the forward line, but especially with Bailey's new run and carry gameplan (and as was highlighted in The Age yesterday) we have a real need of players with high endurance and to another extent, speed. Watch Geelong - they'll show you how damaging pace out of defence can be (Wojcinski, Ablett). Sadly, we're lacking in this department, with Davey being our only real option. No point having him in the forward line when the ball won't even get there...just wasting talent. You're probably going to say that keeping Daniel Ward would've been ideal for this - he is neither a long term option nor a player the youngsters can learn from positively.

Recruiting Maric and to a larger extent (in terms of speed) Wonaeamirri gives the idea that Bailey will be playing Davey in the centre a lot more, and although he may not have the engine to carry out such a role at the moment, that will undoubtedly increase over time.
