I think we need to be ruthlessly honest & more realistic about the ability of some of our players especially the so called senior players to show leadership, & take the initiative to win the game.

At 3/4 time that game was ours to win, providing Clarke & the midfield quickly got the ball into our forward 50 & cut the margin to one kick. The last thing that should have happened was to allow Port to score.

Needless to say Clarke was beaten at the first centre bounce & next 5 ruck contests around the ground by Lade. We then lost each subsequent centre clearence resulting in Port getting 4 goals

I'm critical of Clarke because his intensity did not rise to meet the occasion. You can't imagine Rehn allowing that to happen given his collosal competiteveness.

I'm loathe to criticise Mcleod but his performance today was simply his worst for the year, & you can't blame coaches for that .He allowed Cornes to play too close to him without any effort to move him off him.If you want a case in point, Carr played as a tagger but still managed to collect something like 24 possessions.McLeod simply was either too lazy , too tired or didn't feel like imposing himself in the contest as required of a leader.I ask the question do you think Voss Buckley Cousins or Crawford would allow themselves to be dominated meekly like that?? Hardly!

Last year Peter Schwab was asked about an incipient performance put in by Shane Crawford in a game .Schwab's comment was........"He's a champion; you judge the performance accordingly". In other words the more abilty you have the more is expected, especially if that player is experienced & a "so called leader".

McLeod's newspapers articles are about as worthy as some of his performances he's put in lately!

The other senior players who failed to deliver in my opinion were Bickley, Torney,Stenglein, Welsh, Burns, & we'd all by lying if we thought Perrie's & Ladhams efforts were half decent.

It's more a monumental failure of will & endeavour that's cost us. We never wanted it enough & didn't have enough leadership to take charge & responsibilty for the outcome when the initiative needed to be grabbed.

Unfortunately It's been the same in every game we've lost. A failure of on ground leadership by experienced players failing to respond when situations threatened to get out of control.!

Think about that Stiffy.

What you're really doing is not condemning those kicking the ball or Carey, because he gives a hell of a contest.

Where are the crumbers front and square feeding off of that?? It should be a crumbers paradise.
I am not knocking Carey for presenting far from it. In fact I am pleased that he is working his backside off to create a target. Its when you have other better options in certain situations that we should go to but we go to Carey even if he has 2 players on him. Thats something I cannot understand.

We are too Carey concious. By all means make him your CHF and try and direct your traffic through him but give him half a chance to beat his opponent. There is no use of bombing it high to him awhen he is surrounded by 2 or 3 players. Once the opposition has Carey under control we look lost and don't know what to do. For heaven's sake mix it up a bit.

If we are to get the premiership any time soon we need to be more flexible, less predictable and better skilled. I reckon we are just about the worst team at delivering the ball to our forwards. We kick it long and high. How many times did we do that today?????? Port's delivery to Tredrea is most often in front of himso he can either take an easy chest mark or take it with extended hands so there is very little chance of getting spoiled.

Tredrea is a great player with best pair of hands in the AFL. You put him in our side and he won't take as many marks. Not because he is not good enough, its because the delivery of the ball is shit.

Goals for Pre-Season:
*Improve skills especially foot skills.
*Come up with a few changes to our playing style so its capable of standing up to the teams of Port's ilk and style.
*Start developing a few youngsters and ude those damn draft picks wisely.
*Trade smartly not for another spare parts player

Hang on, you blew any chance of having your "away" game at home. You will play Collingwood or Brisbane.
I think if we manage to beat Collingwood or Brisbane then will face Port at home in the prelim assuming that you beat Sydney which shouldn't be a problem.

All I know is it is going to be a tough ask for us to win the flag, especially they way we are playing at the moment, maybe a 'good' win against the Eagles this w/e will change things,we had Port by the balls at half time yesterday and we should have gone on with it we had a fantastic second quarter, but we let them back in, in the third but we werent out of it, in the end we just gave it up...................pretty soft and pathetic if you ask me.

We dont seem to have any real direction or game plan except play down the wings and just 'bomb' it somewhere in our forwardline and 'hope' someone marks it, to much handballing that is just bull**** football and is not professional at all we had 127 handballs yesterday compared to the Powders 96 just overpossesion and yes that incident yesterday where Shirley got done holding the ball was just plain stupidty:rolleyes:

Fix it and fix it ****ing quick

Don't get so down guys, you will probably destroy an injury plagued West Coast at Footy Park on sat and then most probably get the chance to play Collingwood at the G, a game that is more than winnable once you get on song. It is too hard of a task to beat Port on their home ground and if you guys can pluck a few overdue wins you might get to play Port on the MCG, you will have more chance of beating Port away from their home ground.
A loss to West Coast and Ayres could be history so even a loss this week could draw some positives.

No chance there. I think if we are good enough to beat WC and then Brisbane or Collingwood, we would meet you in the Preliminary final at Football Park and get 60% of the tickets. Even if we do get that far I still cannot see us getting any further than Preliminary final.
