Just bought a netgear router yesterday and have set it up. It all works (all the right lights are on) but it says it an unsecure network and when i go to the ip address? (numbers that you type into the address bar) its comming up a page cannot be displayed. IN the manual it says you need to get into this page so you can secure the network.

Anyone have any ideas as to why its not letting me get into the page and if so how you can fix it?

Thanks

Try this

Go to your start button, click on run and type cmd and press enter.

That should open a command prompt. Then type 'ipconfig' and press enter.

That should show your IP addresses. Use the Default gateway address and put that into your web browser.

If this does not work and you are using a wireless connection to try this. Try plugging your PC in the Ethernet ports on the router, because your router might have a setting to block anyone coming in wirelessly.

Netgear's config page is normally 192.168.0.1. And the generic username and password is admin:password. Is that what your typing in? And make sure you are connected directly to the router..cannot do this remotely

I'm not even getting to the netgear router page. I type in those (netgear) numbers in the address bar but it says webpage cannot be displayed.

My ethernet port in my modem is going to the router and the web port #1 is going to my pc.

Is this right or should it be the other way around?

No that doesn't sound right. Your Ethernet port from your modem should go to the WAN port on your router. in your case it could be called web port #1, Your PC should connect up to your ethernet port in your router. If you don't mind me asking what brand and model router have you bought?

Ahhh ok then, well i'll try that then.
Its a netgear WGR614.
(is that any good?)

Goto: -

Start
Run
Type in CMD (black Box appears)
In the black box type in "ipconfig".
What ever the gateway address is should be your modem.

If your having problems with one browser, try another!!
In other words, if IE isn't working try Firefox.

P.S. If you don't have Firefox.....install it :) it is a far superior browser to IE :D
