Ok for starters I never said anything about his right to an opinion. I half expected people to jump down my throat with that line. I dont mind him having his opinion, as I am having myn.

Whoever said that PLSC back up his posts with quality and reason, could you please show me some examples? If this was the case, I wouldnt give a f*** what he said. What annoys me about PLSC is that he spouts off and rants and DOESNT back it up with anything other than "Gaspar should have been delisted years ago" or "such and such is a disgrace". I have never seen him post with reason, hence this thread, and I am shocked at the ar*e licking he has received.

PLSC, I understand that you must be of an objective nature, but I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me a few good things you see at Tigerland at the moment. This would perhaps allow me insight into your knowledge of the club, show me! Because I am honestly yet to see any.

The problem with negative posters/members of this sort is the possibility of the club listening to them. This is what lead to the long years of mediocrity. Just because the club has been very poor over the last 25 years is no reason to suppose, if we don't make the finals this year, it is still on the same path.

Everything is different at present:

We are recruiting & developing young players. Some of these are actually looking the goods on the field.

Our board is stable with no in-fighting

We have a quality coach with a high media profile on a long term contract.

We are making profits.

We have attracted some quality senior players in recent years.

The club needs to keep doing EXACTLY what it is doing at present if it is ever to succeed.

Yeah its weird. Some people want immediate success and when they dont get it they become frustrated, yet they dont want to recruite any mature aged players or "quick fixes" such as Mark Graham was in some peoples opinions.

Cant have it both ways.

yeh lets blame the supporters for the crap on the field all this time:rolleyes:

not hard to do when you have high picks

yes that is good

you say media profile i say all talk, no action!

yes that is good so now imagine if we actually started winning games $$$

not hard to do when greg miller has draft picks and contracts in his hands

no it doesnt need to keep doing what they are doing, it needs to keep improving and get on the front foot and not be a follower like so many clubs are nowadays

Ok I still dont understand PLSC. Since 2004 we HAVE been winning games while developing kids. Something Carlton havent managed to do and something that took St. Kilda a while to achieve. That didnt really start winning until they had almost fully developed their players. You go on about how we arent performing on the park etc etc, do you think we are going to be world beaters with such a young list?

Maybe we could have made the eight last year if we traded off a heap of draft picks for players, then it would have been "going for the quick fix blah blah". For immediate success we need mature age recruits, which you label as stupid.

You complain when we dont win when we are clearly developing.
You complain when we draft a mature age player.

Players such as Darren Gaspar and Ray Hall will be turned over as time and up and coming players allow them to be. But how can you possibly be upset with where we are now compared to where we were at the end of 2004?

It doesnt make sense.

Don't you ever go to the football?
Can't you see when somebody is not up to current AFL Football?

That's the reason for most of PLSC's posts.
Why do you need a reason other than that?

Did you just land on earth and was whisked away to a game of AFL Footy?

You can pick a guy that won't make it in AFL football as sure as your arse points to the ground.

'Clearly developing' you say......so are Carlton and Hawthorn.....and if either have a better year than us......
than we are ****trucks, and you can throw
that stupid 'clearly developing' BS line out the window.
Mate, and the odds on either doing better are good.

And you arse lick for all those ridiculously positive ppl who also give no
reason for their optimism, bar unfounded clichés.
Really do you think we are the in the top best 8
teams in the land? If not, we aren't playing Finals this year.
And if you do, you've got your hand on it.

Gee, you can pick the fresh meat here.......all rapt up and seduced by their 'first' Richmond rebuild.
Mate, we've seen 26 ****in rebuilds !!!
When will you understand this....

Everytime you open your mouth you sound like an AusKick kid.

You've come out swinging again, because you realise this thread was childish and idiotic and you've become a whining bitch.

:thumbsd:

i think some of these precious little souls look at my username and then instantly take my posts with all this negative blah blah instead of reading my quality posts

Gee, I go away for a couple of days and someone dedicates a thread to the P and his opinions. Where do I start? Which bit of all this gobbledeegook do I address first? Seeing as I'm a techno-moron I can only do things one at a time.

Firstly, the man (if indeed P is a man) presumabely pays his membership and is welcome to his opinion and expressing it, the same as the rest of us, and just as Bigfooty members we are entitled to our opinions about fellow posters. I know I've got into P a bit, but I've never told him to go away.

As for the quote above, you may be right P, but it's a little hypocritical from a man (... if indeed ...) who sees the number 32 and instantly fails to discern good from bad, accurate from out of bounds, outside ball carrier from gutless pr!ck.

You'll find it easier to get treated fairly if you can do the same for others.

... but where's the fun in that?

Cue to madtiger2006 to come in and let us all know of the wonders of how the club listens to supporters.

The really funny thing about people like this is that they keep spouting the bleedin' obvious, but in their mind, they have the wisdom of Solomon.

Yes, we have an average list how do we improve it?

Answer: Delist all the duds and recruit talls and big bodies.

OK, but how long will these take to develop?

Answer: Oh, 3 to 5 years MINIMUM.

How much patience do you have given 26 years of poor performance?

Answer: One preseason match! :D

Supporters "knowing" the club is on the right track is not good enough. We neen tangible proof of this. There have been good signs and bad signs. We need all the signs to be good, not ones that leave lingering doubt. For example, finishing 9th last year was a relatively good performance, but being flogged by 12 goals or more in a season was not. Neither was the fact that we weren't consistently competitive against the top teams.

The point is, we've been lead up the garden path too many times, and this underlies many of PLSC's posts, a fact which some don't realise or choose to ignore.

Until we are a consistent on-field force, then criticism of draft choices, trades and team selection will continue. I for one do not subscribe to a more 'negative' view of the club, but more 'negative' posters such as PLSC make some very good points and observations about footy at Richmond (like it or not)

I think you've got to know your on the right track and stick with it regardless of performance. At least for a while. The desired performance WILL NOT HAPPEN without the correct strategy being in place for a number of years.

The past couple of years we've been heading up in both ladder position and number of wins.

We've had a Rising Star winner and a runner-up, along with another half a dozen undeniably impressive kids coming through the ranks.

Our 'big name' recruits (Johnson, Brown, Simmonds) have all done extremely well for the club and been well worth what we traded for them (I may concede one exception should Daniel Wells ever get his $h!t together). Polak is already suggesting that he will be just as successful.

The smaller name, mature age recruits have cost us nothing and done their jobs as experienced leaders (Graham), backups (Knobel) and, hopefully, gap fillers while kids develop (Kingsley).

The kids are being given time to develop through Coburg (Polo, JON, McGuane) rather than being thrown in early and burning out.

We've gone from big financial losses to solid, and growing, profits.

Our membership is on the up and last year we were second only to Collingwood in 'home game attendances', without needing to resort to loud and ridiculous predictions like those from Peter Schwab or Kevin Sheedy.

Okay, we're not playing finals just yet, and we're certainly not in premiership contention this year, but pretty much every important indicator is heading in the right direction.

Yes, we still get the occassional thumping but those of us who can read the promising signs are prepared to wear that. Yes we still have some ordinary players getting a run in our team, but that's unavoidable. Hell, Lewis Roberts-Thompson has got a premiership medal, as have Matthew Bishop, Rowan Jones, Ben Marsh (sorry to mention him) and plenty more who would be happy to be compared to Hall, Tiv or Gas.

"Knowing that we're on the right track" is good enough for some of us to at least sit back and enjoy watching the journey. To do anything else would be like having given up on Martin Scorsese fifteen years ago and missing out on 'The Departed'.

yes, the Departed is over rated, but I couldn't think of anything else.

Agree with you, gotta have some faith, but behind the faith there needs to be some substance. Terry employs a relatively risky style of football (for a young, inexperienced side) and we do need to stick it out. But as much as supporters 'know' (think) he's on the right track, until there is success we won't really know.

At the moment I think that Terry has done a very good job, but I will not be convinced that he has made all the right moves yet. Admittedly it may take a few more years before his coaching reign bears fruit, but being like the majority of football supporters I'm impatient and I want a flag now:D
