Re: Pods

Yeah you kind of expect a mature mature-age recruit to come in and perform.

And he did! Really well, great stuff :thumbsu:

Re: Pods

He sprayed a few, but he kept presenting and kept getting himself into the play. The nerves hopefully will settle for next time, assuming he plays again.
He'll be very unlucky if he doesn't play.

Drop Blake and bring in Dawson :D

Re: Pods

Jeez he's got some strong hands, great overhead mark. Just wish he had've kicked the couple easy ones.

Still, gets a tick from me.

Re: Pods

Send Dawson back to the seconds for the rest of the year, otherwise he'll be given a million dollar contract from GCFC a la mumford. Better yet, send him round the world on a holiday.

Re: Pods

Kicking is very Geelong-eque.

But took a few marks a darn sight better than those Cam and Tom usually take.

Re: Pods

I think people are being a little harsh on him. At 28 or 18 you would be nervous in your first game and based on his kicking in the VFL, you would think this will reduce the more he plays. He also kicked a nice goal in the last quarter with a lot of pressure on him.

The guy has gone and taken 11 marks, had 16 possessions and kicked 2 goals or something around that mark. Gee, I'd like to who Geelong can get to do that regularly. I would have thought his performance was B grade. He missed a few but overall was better than most people could expect. Had he converted 1 or 2 more shots and the story would be a lot different. He won't kick 100 goals but 2-3 every week would be an excellent return.

Remember he was pick 50 or something in the Rookie Draft. He has done more already than most Rookie selections ever do. Cut him some slack. I would be excited if anything. Chuck Mooney in and Geelong's weakness can become very formidable.

Re: Pods

He missed a couple of goals .. so what. He was strong target and kicked a top goal to put us in front when he had to. He would only get better the longer he stays in the side , I just wonder if he will stay in now.

So?? His first game in a long time. He was very solid. Go check his stats and come back.

Took a great overhead mark in the final quarter and has a massive engine. Very fit player.

Re: Pods

I loved his hands and his leading. Wish we could keep him in the seniors, Hawkins very lucky he kicked a few today

Re: Pods

Nice game from Pod, Well done 11 strong marks in the forward line is awesome. In a couple of weeks he could be kicking bags.

Hmm, who to leave out when Mooney comes back.

Re: Pods

The question is, when Mooney comes back next week, does he stay in the team? At whos expense?

I'm just tryig to recollect when was the last time a Geelong forward took 11 marks in a game. Big Billy maybe?

Gee if he does that in his first game, I'd be giving him another one at home next week, afterall he just about won the game in the end.
Chances are if he takes 10 + marks he'll at least kick 4 a match.
We need a big strong marking target, love to see what he'd do with a few games under his belt.

He has to be included and rotated with the other tall forwards, or just Mooney.

Great debut Pods.

Re: Pods

Thought he was great. Really happy with how he presented. Okay he missed a few but a great effort from me.

Who's that 28 year old debutant?

Hey guys was watching the game today and could someone fill me in about that guy just curious to know his story i guess, also that ruckmen is a gun!

Re: Pods

He was great in my book.

Took two crucial marks that I would have written in pen that Mooney and Hawkins wouldn't have.

Re: Who's that 28 year old debutant?

Ruckman is Dawson Simpson.

28 year old is James Podsiadly. Ex VFL Cat and has been on C'wood and Essendon's lists.

Played well I thought.

Re: Who's that 28 year old debutant?

Check the other threads. James Podisiadly.
He is guy who was past over around 2000/2002 by a couple clubs when on their list as a Rookie , generally settled into VFL football becoming what many considered the best player in VFL to have never played AFL.
He was brought to Geelong last season more to prepare for post footy life but his performance stood out so much that he finally got his chance when the AFL introduced the Mature Rookie Rule
