This is my personally analysis of the StKilda list. Tell me what you think of how I rated players, what did I do right and what did I do wrong?

Keepers - Required Players
Steven Baker - Exceptional tagger.
Luke Ball - Needs body right so 04-05 form can return.
Xavier Clarke - Needs extreme levels of injury prevention. Hard at it, fast and loads of ability. Nowhere near his potential yet, but if injury's continue he won't reach it.
Nick Dal Santo - Class act.
Leigh Fisher - Developing into a solid defender.
Sam Fisher - Becoming an Elite defender in Hudghtons absence.
Fraser Gehrig - My guess is a 50% chance to play on. Still a lethal goal kicker.
Sam Gilbert - Big future, seems very versatile so far. Big fan of him.
Brendon Goddard - Big talent, good future.
Jason Gram - Good attacking defender, needs to improve hardness and defensive skills.
Aaron Hamill - Unknown where he is at.
Lenny Hayes - Class Act.
Max Hudghton - Unrecognized as an Elite defender in recent years, absence not been as missed due to emergence of Sam Fisher, would be in his element defending mid sized forwards.
Justin Koschitzke - StKilda's edge, Needs extreme injury prevention.
Matt Maguire - Gun CHB, big future.
Stephen Milne - Needs to be played forward pocket only. 40-50 goals player.
Leigh Montagna - Class Act.
Nick Riewoldt - Class Act. Best work rate in AFL out of talls.

Another year at least - Players that deserve another year
Jayden Attard - I have been a critic but he has been a solid recruit.
Aaron Fiora - Immense talent, great player when the team is hot.
Michael Gardiner - Immense talent. Unfortunate so far with Stkilda.
Fergus Watts - Good size, needs to show something next year.

On the Chopping Block - 8 rounds to prove themselves

Shane Birss - Not a bad depth player but needs to show something.
Barry Brooks - May get another year as a developing tall.
Raphael Clarke - I don't rate him, but I hope to hell he proves me wrong.
Andrew McQualter - Needs to show something.
Michael Rix - Not a bad backup tall defender/ruck.
Brett Voss - Still serviceable, needs to show he can still do it week in week out.

Gone? - Last year
Jason Blake - Not up to AFL standard.
Matthew Clarke - Doubt he will go around again, Great short term recruit baring injury.
Matt Ferguson - Can't get a game.
James Gwilt - Not up to AFL standard.
Robert Harvey - Likely to retire a Hall of Famer.
Phillip Raymond - Often in Casey reserves.
Andrew Thompson - Will retire. Great Stkilda servant.

Youngsters - Developing recruits
Jarryd Allen - 1st year player.
David Armitage - 1st year player.
Brad Howard - 1st year player.
Clinton Jones - First year of AFL, has showed promise.
Justin Sweeney - Apparently plays exceptionally well at VFL level.

Pol you did alright!

I thought Attard has been excellent this year. I would place him in the required player list. He hasn't played many AFL games, so he should improve. Can be a very handy tagger.

Fiora has had enough time to show his talent. I don't like players that only star when the team is winning. I don't think he needs another year to develop. The richmond draft scout would still be having nightmares over the fiora pick (he was number three:eek:)

Keepers - Required Players
Max Hudghton - Unrecognized as an Elite defender in recent years, absence not been as missed due to emergence of Sam Fisher, would be in his element defending mid sized forwards.
Stephen Milne - Needs to be played forward pocket only. 40-50 goals player.

Good stuff Pol06 youve carried out a pretty accurate assessment.

A couple of things...Max's absence has been missed because Sam Fisher is at his best when he can run off half-back and not just be a key defender.

I also think that Milne, although he has been quite good over the last 3 games, should be given the chop. He's a one-trick pony, can only play fwd pocket, isn't a big game player, isn't consistent.

Rix will have to be given another year simply because we need another back-up. As you said M.Clarke will probably retire...that leaves us with Gardiner and Kosi (both injury-prone), and Van Rheenan (still developing). Brooks should get delisted. So i reckon we'd have to prolly end up keeping Rix for a back-up (that hopefully wont have to be used).

Yeah ChrisFooty Attard has been good this year, but I still think he should be about or 22-25th player, around that mark which really puts him on the fringe, thats why I didnt include him in the required players.

As for Fiora I still think he has got something to offer, does go missing, but can be very damaging at times.

ShadowFax what I meant was Hudghtons absence has not been missed as much as in recent years when i think he missed 2 or 3 games and we really had no one to fill for him. I still rate Hudghton up with the best full backs in the league and agree that Sam Fisher is at his best as a running defender, but he has really surprise me how well he has become at full back. I guess i just underestimated his ability to play there.

With Milne I don't think it is a huge problem that he is a one-trick-pony, although it would be great if he wasn't, I still think he is an exceptional forward pocket and forward pocket only. I think he is poor anywhere else on the field. In Milne's best years he didn't play up the ground so I don't think they should even bother trying it. He still has the ability to be one of the best small forwards in the comp, thats why it seems somewhat stupid to play him up the ground when we have no other real small forward threats.

Thanks for your replys

Milne will be an AFL player next year.

He has a year to run on his contract.

Barring a trade, which is highly unlikely, he will on the senior list next year.

Fairly accurate, but I would change a few things

Keepers (senior players that have a good future at the club)
Luke Ball - Currently a GOP, but hopefully he can get close to his best in 2008
Xavier Clarke - Will never be a star, but we need his pace, skill and creativity
Nick Dal Santo - Should become an elite midfielder
Leigh Fisher - Rock solid defender, no club would let him go
Sam Fisher - One of the best players at the club
Raphael Clarke - If he gets the injuries under control he will be a major part of our future
Sam Gilbert - Effectively replaces Hamill, but is quicker and more versatile
Jason Gram - Gun player, our primary running defender
Lenny Hayes - No longer elite, but still in the top 3 in our midfield
Jayden Attard - His tagging is amazing, if he can start getting more of the footy he will be a gun
Justin Koschitzke - Has the most potential of anyone at the club and should eventually captain
Matt Maguire - Gun CHB
Leigh Montagna - Will be a star. One of the few mids with pace
Nick Riewoldt - Superstar
Brendon Goddard - Gun utility

Another year at least - Won't be delisted this year, but need to show a fair bit in 2008 to stay
Stephen Milne - The level he is currently performing at is the minimum required to keep his spot. If he drops off at all he is gone
Andrew McQualter - Could still be a handy midfielder but needs to show improvement
James Gwilt - Might be of more value to another club. Can be a good AFL player, but there is no spot for him in our 22
Aaron Fiora - If he keeps performing at his current level he will not be delisted, but can't drop off
Michael Gardiner - If he can't play 15 games in 2008 he should be delisted
Fergus Watts - If Kosi becomes a full-time forward Watts is of no use to us
Max Hudghton - Needs to play 15+ games next year or retire
Steven Baker - Has been ordinary this year, needs to lift in 2008
Aaron Hamill - He is gone, but won't bugger off before his contract expires
Shane Birss - Needs to go up a level to stay in 2009
Barry Brooks - Shouldn't be delisted, but must be given an opportunity to prove himself as a ruckman. If he fails, then delist him
Michael Rix - If either Gards or Brooks emerge as a genuine ruckman Rix should be delisted. Will never be more than c-grade backup
Jason Blake - If his form drops at all he would not be worthy of a spot on the list, but if he keeps performing to the current level then he'll stay
Clinton Jones - His disposal might stop him from being an effective AFL player. Give him a go in 2008 to see if it is too much of a liability, or if he can get by on pace/tackling
Justin Sweeney - Has a heap of potential but has had a shocking attitude. Hopefully he's got his priorities in order and could be that extra avenue to goal we have been looking for

On the Chopping Block - 8 rounds to prove themselves
Matt Ferguson - Is behind numerous others for a spot in the team and is constantly injured. Unless he comes in and stars, he will be gone
Brett Voss - Must lift his performance if he is to stay. Too slow for defence and hasn't been performing up forward

Gone? - Last year
Matthew Clarke - A failed experiment. Should have gone for Tom Collier, who will go top 10 in this year's draft
Robert Harvey - He could go on, but it sounds like he has had enough
Phillip Raymond - No improvement in 2 years. Still can't get a game in the Casey seniors
Andrew Thompson - His time to go
Fraser Gehrig - When he performs at his best he is still awsome, but doesn't do it enough. Give Kosi some responsibility as the main goal kicker and he will shine

Youngsters - Developing recruits
Jarryd Allen - Could end up replacing Max at full back. Good prospect
David Armitage - Hopefully he will end up taking Harvs' spot in the midfield and doing half as good a job
Brad Howard - Has a long way to go if he is going to be an AFL player, but has freakish pace and fitness

If Brooks gets delisted I'm going to be pissed. He was a first round draft pick a several years back and was drafted to Port Adelaide while they were having their ruckman spend-up. We gave up picks 6 and 31 to get him the year after he was drafted. He came to St Kilda and had injury troubles which hampered his development. After that, he had not developed as we might have liked and was in and out of the side due to poor performances. Last year he showed glimpses of form in the 2's and was brought in for a few odd games. This year he has apparently been very good for Casey and Lyon is very reluctant to give him a game at all let alone a regular game. He can still be a very good player if only he is given the chance to string a few games together in the seniors.

P.S.- Blake must be given the axe. No more needs to be said.

Keepers (senior players that have a good future at the club)
Luke Ball - We know what he can do but it is up to him to break out, and not use ibnjuries as an excuse.
Xavier Clarke - If he can improve his defensive skills then he is a keeper, too soft on the opposition
Nick Dal Santo - One of our best players but needs to lift his intensity, which could lift the rest of the midfield.
Leigh Fisher - Good defender
Sam Fisher - Solid defender who has to just keep improving.
Sam Gilbert - Has been great
Jason Gram - Can be shown up a bit defensivly, especially in the air but a gun running from defense.
Lenny Hayes - Still a champ
Jayden Attard - Is solid but not brilliant
Justin Koschitzke - He can become great
Matt Maguire - Gun CHB
Leigh Montagna - Keep it up Joey!
Nick Riewoldt - Top Player, needs to improve goalkicking
Brendon Goddard - Can become a star
Stephen Milne - I believe he should always be in the forward pocket, too many times ball comes to ground and we have no one crumbing. This is his element and if he is put in the forward line can easily kick 30-40 goals
Steven Baker - Will stay

Another year at least - Won't be delisted this year, but need to show a fair bit in 2008 to stay
required to keep his spot. If he drops off at all he is gone

Robert Harvey - He may go on or may not its up to him though. Would love him to stay to show our develoing midfielders how to play with a bit of spirit and heart.
Andrew McQualter - Could still be a handy midfielder but needs to show improvement
James Gwilt - I see potential but needs to improve quickly and drastically
Aaron Fiora - I have always rated him but if he doesnt show anything next year should be shown the door
Michael Gardiner - We know he has talent but needs to string a lot of games together
Fergus Watts - Could take over from Fraser as a full forward.
Max Hudghton - Needs to keep on the ground and try to improve even
Aaron Hamill - If he can keep up his intensity he will be invaluable but needs to do it 100% of the time
Shane Birss - You tell me where he is at
Barry Brooks - Why would he have been kept for such a long time if he wasnt talented? Needs to somehow show it at AFL level
Clinton Jones - Has loads of potential just needs opportunties
Justin Sweeney - Young and could become anything
Raphael Clarke - Needs to play smarter, harder footy, has talent somewhere but not sure for what position.

On the Chopping Block - 8 rounds to prove themselves
Jason Blake - Turns it over too much
Michael Rix - Don't rate him unless he can change his ways
Matt Ferguson - Hasn't done much in his time at the club needs to show his worth because it doesnt look like his has much worth
Brett Voss - He can be a excellent player but needs to really dig deep to be guaruteed a spot next year

Gone? - Last year
Matthew Clarke - What was the point
Phillip Raymond - No improvement in 2 years. Still can't get a game in the Casey seniors
Andrew Thompson - Not much left to him but will be sad to see him go.
Fraser Gehrig - He can turn it on but does he want to?

Youngsters - Developing recruits
Jarryd Allen - Quality defender
David Armitage - Has the potential and talent needs the chance to show it.
Brad Howard - Could be an outstanding prospect but will he get a chance?

Like the review matey, but honestly I think they have to do a little bit of rebuilding. Even know we have a great talented list some people need to go.

Say Thank you to - Andrew Thompson, Matthew Clarke

Ask some really hard questions to - Barry Brooks, Andrew McQualter,Raphael Clarke, Aaron Fiora, Stephen Milne, Brett Voss, Fergus Watts,Jason Blake

Ask will your body let you play to : Aaron Hamil, Michael Gardner,

Ask if the Hunger is still there : Fraser Gehrig

Change the position and take the leadership away from - Luke Ball

Get a decent Goalkicking coach - Nick Riewoldt

Let Robert Harvey Make his own decision on what he wants to do. His a champion. We all know he can go on for another year, but honestly if youve been heart broken year in year out it must be bloody hard.

Nice one Plugger, I'm sort've along these lines too, though I'd be happy with gambling another year on Gardiner for low $ and we'd now have to cut Hamill.

(etc.)

I like the "categories" you put our players into... however, I disagree with you (and it looks like everybody else who's commented) about Jason Blake. Maybe he gives up a few (who doesn't?) but he puts himself into the middle of it every chance he gets. He's got heart and I for one, think that's what keeps him in the mix. Isn't that what Fiora is accused of missing? Heart and hardness?

Two who are trade bait or delist material: Brooks and R. Clarke

You serious! Bakes is a keeper for sure, his hardness is priceless.

Why would we want Fraser to retire this year, still kicking bags.

You serious! Bakes is a keeper for sure, his hardness is priceless.

Why would we want Fraser to retire this year, still kicking bags.

Bakes has been an elite tagger for 3 years now, but recently he has been left for dead by his opponents. It might just be a lack of fitness, he might be carrying an injury or he might just be struggling in a game that places more emphasis on pace and skill. At the end of 2008 he will be 28. Then we should assess where he is at and if it looks like he's going to do a Stephen Powell of 2006 and embarrass himself, he should give it away. Hopefully he can get his fitness and form back up and provide another 3 good years, though.

Fraser has played 7 good games this year, about 3 shocking ones and a few reasonable ones. If he is going to be the main avenue to goal in a premiership side, he will have to play well in more than half of the games. I think we should give both Brooks and Watts a decent go at full forward before the end of the year, and if one of them does well then Frase should go. If they both flop and Gehrig wouldn't mind going around for another year then he might as well stay.

not bad pol06 - now on a red card haha.

bit harsh on gwilty and blakey, both playing resonable footy at the moment and have cemented their position on the list you would think - especially blakey.

im still pretty cut we delisted justin sweeney - used to love him!
