In what may be my last few posts before Friday...

Who would you rather have on the list/staff for the long haul?

I know one player doesn't make a club and certainly not a player who isn't a surefire star at this stage of his career, but is Rats the coach going forward?

Personal preference. Ratten as coach or Hampson as a player?

It's a tough one.. Ratten clearly has his faults as a coach and I'm still not sure whether he has what it takes in the long haul to build a premiership team and further on a dynasty.

However, as big a fan of Hammer that I am I wonder why the two don't get along? Is Hammer an interrupting force on the team? Does he not train as hard or listen as well as what Rats would like? Is it a problem with Rats, if so what?

If you choose Hampson > Ratten then who is going to coach the club? I haven't got an answer for you. I'd nominate Silvagni as coach, but there are those people who suggest that he's nowhere near articulate or intelligent enough to be the genius coach that is required to succeed at this level...

So I'll stick with Rats for now, but I love my Hammer!

I'm saying Hammer at this stage, because I rate his potential that highly and I'm not sure how Ratts will ultimately go in the future (i.e I'm not entirely sold on his abilities as coach, but I'm willing to be patient and see how he matures in the role), but it's quite possible in a year or two I'd reverse my opinion, you just never know.

Are you relying on anything other than the rumour that a 'new blue who doesn't get along with Ratten' has already been signed by GC in support of this presumption?

AFAIK Hammer is contracted to CFC for next year, so either the rumour is about another player or it's entirely bullshit.

Their 2 options and maybe a 3rd as coach next year.Leigh Matthews record in AFL/VFL as a coach, player etc stands as one of the best if not the best he get's result. The other guy Paul Roos says his retiring after this season. He probably see their isn't much talent left in his club to even improve them and get their best.Mick Malthouse is interesting also because he even get mediocre team like Collingwood playing great football at times.

I hope we don't waste our talent players just like Dockers did. I remember the footy world thought Dockers had a great list but they wasted it.

Poll doing well for a player still not in our best 22 just yet.:D
Poll should have been Wiggins or Ratten or Ohailipin or Ratten lol then it would be a cliffhangar.

I agree, close the thread.

I know you're hurting right now Ytoo and that there was a rumour out there (completely unsubstantiated filth, by the way - funny how none of the Melbourne based or Queensland based scribes have reported it when it's a native Queenslander playing for a Melbourne based club) but believe me if GC want Hampson up there then they'll be paying over the odds for him. We have him contracted through 2011.

This was an unnecessary poll from a baseless rumour. In the end I assure you Hammer will remain a Blue and so too will Rats. i understand how popular Hammer is at the club and how borderline the opinion on Rats is as a coach- there lies the poll result.

Don't let the emotions get to you mate. you're normally a very good poster and you dont need to revert to spudism.

For some reason, I suspect that the OP is bored...

I doubt seriously that Ratts or Hammer is going anywhere soon and I think that the unsubstantiated crap about how a Carlton player has already signed for GC17 is just that... crap.

I, personally, think that the AFL is totally screwing this because if they do not disclose the details of who GC17 has signed, they will be leaving themselves open to a nice hefty lawsuit... especially if they are allowing GC17 to poach someone like Gibbs and are going to screw us with the compensation deal...

If someone like Ablett is going for pick 26 and he was a F/S pick up... a #1 draft pick like Gibbs has to be worth 2 if not 3 first round picks especially considering the class that Gibbs has and how much better he will get over time.

You know, there quite possibly is more then a grain of truth to the OP...

I've heard rumours of quite a few players from the playing list not happy with Brett Ratten sometime last season (and not Fev either)

At the end of the day, you can't have players undermining the authority of the coach, iindeed these stories of conflict is true.

The way I see it, myself, and the Club Board etc, would side with Ratten ahead of Hampson or any other player on the list...

Before you start to flame the OP, remember, where there is smoke there is fire.

I heard rumours from some very reliable sources that you are still a closet Geebung supporter and that not many people like you...

At the end of the day all we have is rumour, speculation and innuendo about all this.

Until the GC17 recruiters come out with their list of experienced players they have poached from other clubs we will not know who the hell they have recruited.

And if they have attempted to snatch someone who is contracted, then we can expect better compensation for that player than for someone who is currently out of contract.

If they have snatched one of our first round picks who is out of contract, then I am expecting something better than what the AFL is trying to pass off as decent compensation (pick 26 for Ablett... you have to be kidding me).

TBH At the end of the day, the club will side with Ratten over Hampson or just about any other player on the list who has 'issues' with the coach ...

The club recently discarded two players last year for attitude problems, Fevola and Cameron Cloke, and went down hard on Eddie Betts, Walker and Houlihan for their pre-season stuff-ups.

What I'm now liking about Ratten is that he is becoming a lot more tougher and imposing discipline and a strong ordered culture to the club (something Pagan and Brittain never seemed to be able to do, and even David Parkin was lax in that department in the last few years at the club)

Players have to learn to respect the chain of command, and Ratten is in charge of the club, and if Hampson cannot seem to be able to resolved his 'rumoured' personality conflict with him, he'll be shown the door, just like Fev and Cloke.

Interesting question, I can't choose.

IMO neither have proven themselves, and while I'm prepared to give both more time to do that, I'm not convinced that either of them will make it.

Did you post these rumours last year cp? You do have a tendency for posting every rumour you hear, substantiated or not so you must have posted this.

Which players were mentioned in these rumours?

If Ratten is behind Russell taking the kick outs then I would much prefer Hamma.

Although Hamma will be the first part of the trade at seasons end to land us a "big fish" forward!

Ratten has the results on the board. Can't argue with 13 wins and a final at this stage of our development. No-one could expect better than that. There was a bit of confusion player/coach mid-season in regards to their role, which seemed to change often, but that was sorted as seen by our finish to the year. Bomber Thompson had that problem with Geelong at the end of 2006. Ratten has grown nicely with the group as did Clarkson with Hawthorn.

Ratten has runs on the board, Hampson, well is still getting there and might struggle for a game with Kreuzer and Warnock there.

Easy decision.
