This is more of a thread regarding every club but seeing saints supporters are the smartest i will start it in here.
I am sick of people saying things like how was Aaron Fiora taken so high and James Hird so low.
Now what annoys me is that it is hard to tell how these players will play in the AFL. Some junior players are out of this world good and then never cut it in AFL. It is the recruiters job to pick the best players at the draft, now you would not draft a player that was ordinary at junior level because he might on the off chance be a good AFL player. (i'm talking high picks here).
I will use Daniel Kerr as an example. He was never a standout until he got to Under 18's and even then not as good as he is now (obviously). He had a super carnival for WA and got drafted at 18. If you did the draft now on current ability he would be top 5 easily. Now you look at his size when drafted and you would never take him top 5. He was even told in his first year he would not play a senior game but he played all games and look at him now.
Aaron Fiora taken at 3 because he was an outstanding junior. Mark Bolton at 4 he was an outstabding junior. Both have not kicked on in the AFL.
So all in all what im saying is people who say oh you wasted a pick on this bloke when you could of got so and so are stupid stupid people. You can never predict what a player does at AFL level. You can only draft them on how they play as a junior.
What are peoples thoughts on this? I may not of made a lot of sense but i think i am right.
